Corpsman killed in Iraq last week identified

The Defense Department released Tuesday the name of a sailor killed last week while serving with the Marines in Iraq’s Anbar province.

Hospitalman Kyle Anthony Nolen, 21, was killed Dec. 21, and died “as a result of enemy action,” according to the DoD release. A report in Monday’s edition of the Dallas Morning News said Nolen was killed when a vehicle he was riding in struck a mine.

A native of Ennis, Texas, Nolen was serving in Iraq with Hotel Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Division. He enlisted in the Navy in August 2005, according to service records. He leaves behind a wife and two children, according to the Dallas Morning News.
