Got this DIRECT from the Marine Corps Times 27 July 2009.

*********

"Effective Immediately, the MINIMUM (emphasis mine) physical fitness test score for all recon candidates jumps from 200 to 225 (First Class). Swim qualification jumps from 3rd Class to 2nd."

This is according to MarAdmin 412/09 dtd 10 July.

"Additionally, non infantry Marines who want to go recon MUST complete the Basic Infantry Course in addition to the Infantry Rifleman course. (This would be for already serving Marines)."

Other changes you need to know:

The enlistment for Recon is going from 4 to 5 years. (Starting 1 October).

Be male, US citizen.

Minimum GT of 105.

Eligible for Secret Clearance

Normal color vision.

Much of this is directed towards already serving Marines so I didn't repeat the entire article. But there it is, the 'minimum' qualifications. If you can't meet them there are NO waivers and no 'getting around' or 'but but but' etc. If you cannot meet these requirements you won't be attending the recon tryouts.

Again, the message was directed to already serving Marines, but there is no doubt that it will apply to those wishing to become Recon as well, so it's posted here. Hopefully it will answer some questions.
