The combination of home video games and High Fructose Corn Syrup, makes me wonder. High fructose corn syrup is found in darn near everything, when was that invented?

I'm surprised Hawaii isn't higher than 20%...everyone I see in Hawaii is HUGE!

In a 2007 study, rats were fed a diet high in fat and HFCS and kept relatively sedentary for 16 weeks in an attempt to emulate the diet and lifestyle of many Americans.[35] The rats were not forced to eat, but were able to eat as much as they wanted; they consumed a large amount of food, and the researcher, Dr. Tetri stated that there is evidence that fructose suppresses the sensation of fullness. Within four weeks, the rats showed early signs of fatty liver disease and type II diabetes. Shapiro et al. fed rats a high-fructose diet for six months and compared them to rats that had been fed a fructose-free diet. Although the rats that had consumed high levels of fructose showed no change in weight, when compared to the rats that had consumed a fructose-free diet, levels of leptin in the blood of rats fed a high-fructose diet indicated the development of leptin resistance. When the rats were switched to a high-fat diet, the leptin-resistant rats, those fed a high-fructose diet, gained more weight than those who had not developed the resistance and had been fed a fructose-free diet.[36]

They use it because its cheaper to produce and much sweeter than regular cane sugar. I keep an eye out for HFCS. The best way to go is to buy organic everything if you can afford it.

I only eat organic ketchup and barbeque sauce, because of HFCS.

Do you see the price of organic foods? What an outrageous pricing model so that you wont eat what Gen Mod food producers want you to consume.

Michelle Obama planted an organic garden at the WH. The GM food producers are still grumbling over that one

    Please read the labels folks

Here, here. We eat almost entirely organic in this house, & there are some things that Isrowei's better off not knowing (for instance, the exact prices that we pay for organic foods!). However, I can't put a price on knowing that my family is getting foods that are as natural as I can get them, at least most of the time, & that we have a darn healthful diet. I refuse for us to be part of that statistic, ever!

Buy locally. There are farmer's markets, butchers, local dairies and all that good stuff in many locations. It's not as convenient as the supermarket but it's usually healthier for both you and your wallet.

I live in an apartment 5 minutes off campus from my Alma Mater...then I'm going to TBS. Guess I'll have to rely on the supermarket for the near and forseeable future :-(

You can always look for a community garden plot. Might meet some women, Sir.

But, you are off to TBS and it is late in the season this year.

    Maybe next year.

I agree with you Idena. To stay healthy means to pay a little more upfront. I generally go to Farmer's markets for veggies and fruits.

We generally eat half and half here, but thanks to your message here I will increase the organic percentage significantly
