Private Health Care post-boot camp?

My son is in boot camp now. He would like to get his eye correction surgery while he is on his boot graduation liberty from a private eye surgeon. Is this permissable? Does he need to get permission first?

Not really, as long as he plans to pay for it himself and it doesn't adversely affect his duty.

In most cases we can go to civilian doctors for anything we want, on our own time and dime.

The Marine Corps (well Navy actually) will give him the surgery. He may just have to wait on a list for several years.
