Many service plates drive Colorado roads

I saw a Colorado Medal of Honor license plate in Colorado Springs last weekend. I was wondering how many Medal of Honor plates have been issued?

While on the subject, how many Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star and other military service plates have been issued in Colorado?

• There are nine vehicles and/or motorcycles with current Colorado Medal of Honor plates.

The Colorado Department of Revenue also has these numbers for plates registered as of June 30.

• Bronze Star, 645
• Bronze Star Valor, 97
• Distinguished Service Cross, 2
• Air Force Cross, 3
• Navy Cross, 6
• Purple Heart, 3,971
• Silver Star, 69

There are a large number of Colorado military-related license plates and they'll be joined on Jan. 1 by the 4th Infantry Division's.

Others include: 10th Mountain Division, 11,768; Air Force Academy, 320; Air Force Commemorative, 14,155; Disabled Veteran, 12,469; Handicap Disabled Veteran, 2,155; Honorably Discharged Veteran, 59,367; Korean War Veteran, 668; Pearl Harbor, 6; Prisoner of War, 348; Air Force, 475; Army, 6,412; Army Special Forces, 107; Coast Guard, 177; Marine Corps, 11,846; Navy, 2,336; Vietnam Veteran, 7,846; National Guard, 915; Naval Reserve, 773; Fallen Air Force, 2; Fallen Army, 30; Fallen Marines, 12; and Fallen Navy, 13.
