    El Toro Marines

This is a notice for all Marines stationed at MCAS El Toro at any time. Apparently the chemicals used to degrease aircraft and aircraft parts is/was(?) known to be highly carcinogenic. Many Marines have has serious health issues due to this exposure, especially if you were in the MWSG-37 area. Go to http://www.tcepce.blogspot.com/ for more information. PLEASE pass this on to all of your USMC friends. Semper Fi, Terry Whitford trwredhawk@aol.com 29 Jan 08

Thanks for the heads up CarbonTerry.

On MCAS El Toro mess duty we cleaned the back of the food vans with aircraft degreaser. 409 had nothing on that stuff! Just touching it would instantly dry out and crack your finger tips. I wonder if it was the same chemicals?

I worked in an aircraft factory from 1960 to 70 and they were still using Carbon Tet,in fact they heated it in a big vat to degrease parts.

This fact sheet answers the most frequently asked health questions (FAQs) about carbon tetrachloride.
For more information, call the ATSDR Information Center at 1-888-422-8737. This fact sheet is one in
a series of summaries about hazardous substances and their health effects. It is important you
understand this information because this substance may harm you. The effects of exposure to any
hazardous substance depend on the dose, the duration, how you are exposed, personal traits and
habits, and whether other chemicals are present
