Photo of the Day — U.S. Marines during a lull in the fighting on Bougainville, 1944. (This has always been one of my favorite WWII pictures. It's a different generation of Marines: Different weapons, slightly different utility uniforms. But the faces are the same. In body and spirit, the Marine rifleman never changes.)
