Some members of the Marine Wing Support Squadron, MWSS-371, quietly returned Tuesday from a tour of duty in Iraq to Marine Corps Air Station Yuma.

Only an advanced party of the unit returned and the remainder of the squadron is expected to be back in two weeks, according to Capt. David Jansen, the officer in charge at MCAS. Jensen declined to specify how many Marines returned.

The MWSS-371 is responsible for all support operations, Jansen said. Those duties include assisting with runways, helicopter landing zones, airfield construction, supply convoys and transportation equipment.

The reason only part of the unit returned was to keep some more experienced personnel stationed abroad and to provide a smoother transition of the remainder of the unit when they eventually return, Jansen said.
