Question Would you turn in your son if he confessed to murder?

16-year-old's father tells police his son confessed to stabbing three

LANCASTER, Pa. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested Saturday in the stabbing deaths of a Lancaster couple and their teenage son last month, authorities said.
Alec Devon Kreider, 16, of Lancaster, was charged with three counts of murder after his father informed police that he had confessed to the killings, Manheim Township Police Chief Neil J. Harkins said at a news conference.
Police said Kreider knew the teenage victim, but they declined to comment on a possible motive.

The bodies of Thomas Alan Haines, 50; Lisa Ann Haines, 47; and their son Kevin, 16, were found on May 12 at their house in Manheim Township.
Their college-age daughter Margaret “Maggie” Haines told police she was awakened by a noise at about 2 a.m. and went into her parents’ bedroom, where she said she found her father lying on the bed and her mother sitting nearby. The mother quietly told her to get help, according to police.
When police arrived a short time later, they found the parents dead in their bedroom and the son in a hallway.
Police said they found the family’s back door open, and no signs of forced entry. Nothing was taken from the house.
Kevin Haines was a sophomore at Manheim Township High School, where he was a member of the German club and Quiz Bowl team.
Maggie Haines, a 2005 graduate of Manheim Township, had returned home just days earlier after finishing her sophomore year at Bucknell University.
Thomas Haines was a salesman at Motion Industries in Lancaster, while his wife taught at Lancaster Brethren Preschool.

    Parenting Duties

To specifically answer the question: "Yes most certainly, and for every wrongful act." That was always my father's rule. For one brief example, my Dad once ran for a county wide elective office in Texas, and he lost the election because he would not accept the offer made by the various precinct chairmen wherein they offered Dad "1000 votes for $500". This was a long time ago folks, 1948. I haven't kept up with the current vote pricings since. Gary Hall, Tyler, TX

Under those circumstances - hell, yes. He already killed three people in cold blood, who might be next now that he confessed?

Of course, he might also resist citizen's arrest a bit before the 911 call gets made.

I remember reading a story about the famous Marine general Chesty Puller. During the Korean war a chaplain was escorting three prisoners to the rear. He encountered a young private bringing ammo to the front. He ordered the man to drop his task and deal with the prisoners. The guy immediately shot all three, and continued with his job.

The chaplain rushed to Puller in the greatest outrage. Puller listened with deep sympathy, and said he'd take care of the matter. Then after the chaplain left he suggested they give the young man a BAR and send him to the front...

Imagine the outrage from the left on that one today...

Besides that... How can you sit and carry on about the Korean War? What natinal interest did we have at stake there that justifies that one in your mind?

How many of you would shoot your own son in self defense is the question ?

A good question. It's easy in the 'hypothetical', and one I hopefully never have to answer in the real world.

...Ah...Yeah...Well Officer, ya see...my son was sittin' there on that stool, cleaning his Ruger Blackhawk .44 magnum....and it must've misfired or something!...Damn...shot himself in the face...6 times! Maybe a faulty double-action or something...I don't know.

Notwithstanding all the cocky answers here, I would turn him in as painful as that would be to do. The self defence question is a harder one I think...the sense of my instincts would be to just bring him down somehow--not to kill-- and hope that works. Lets hope none of us here ever have to face that fathers pain.
