Question Good Conduct Medal Queation -

I was discharged from the Corps in June 0f '79. My DD214 says I earned a "Good Conduct Medal". Is that all there is to it? Does the Corps give me one or do I have to go out an buy my own?

On the same note; I had DOD do a check on my medals & ribbons earned last year. They tell me I've also earned a "Navy E" and a "Sea Service" with one bronze star. Is there anything else I should expect from DOD?

I recently sent away for my awards from the MC, they sent me my medals and ribbons in the mail, and upon request to Marine Barracks Washington DC, they sent the Certificates for the medals.

    For Medals and Ribbons
    Write to
    Navy Personnel Command
    Retired Records Section
    PERS 312D2
    9700 Page Avenue,
    St Louis MO 63132-5000

    For the Certificates:
    Department of the Navy
    Headquarters United States Marine Corps
    3280 Russelll Road,
    Quantico VA 22134-5103
Lt Col J R Taylor USMC
    Assistant Head,
    military Awards Branch

It takes a while to get an answer!

The best thing to do is to visit this website and download Form SF 180 to start the process for awards and medals.

    http://www.archives.gov/st-louis/military-personnel/standard-form-180.html

Then send a filled out form AND your DD214 to the address listed on the SF 180 form and in the comments section as for your medals and awards be updated. They will send you a DD215 (correction/additions to DD 214) along with any ribbons / medals that you are entitled to.

Takes about 6-8 months, however, so be PATIENT!!
