    Dissent Becomes Sedition

    By Jim Simpson

Well it’s official. The Iraqis are now in charge. Premature? Extremely. Dangerous for both our troops and Iraqi citizens? Most likely. Congratulations Liberals, you got your way yet again. And as always, someone else will suffer for it.

2,000 lawyers, yes that’s right 2,000, are descending on Iraq. Have they offered their pro bono services to help establish the rule of law in this country that so desperately needs it? Are they there to help the newly established courts prosecute Saddam’s cronies so Iraq can get past that ugly chapter in its history?

    Don’t be silly.

They have come to help in the defense of Saddam Hussein. That’s right! And as the surreal prospect of this blatant mass murderer actually getting a day in court confronts us—as though there was even a smidgen of doubt about his guilt— his henchmen continue in the murder and mayhem that so distinguished his bloody rule, unabated.

“We should strangle the Bolshevik baby in its crib,” remarked the inimitable Winston Churchill shortly after Lenin’s bloody gang seized power. Unfortunately, like most good ideas, his prescient observation fell on largely deaf ears. Had we moved more decisively then to destroy them, we would have saved hundreds of millions of lives and spared the world untold suffering at the hands of this perverted ideology.

It is, however, an unfortunate fact of human nature that we are rarely moved to take preemptive action against a perceived threat until it is obvious, immediate and grave. So consequently, the Bolshevik’s murderous spawn, like the Ba’athists in Iraq and Syria, and even the many breeds of Muslim terrorists, who may not share their ideology but who definitely have adopted their tactics, now infest the world like a plague of DeCon-resistant cockroaches.

In 2000 we elected a President who had the rare guts to challenge the status quo and take a stand. When al Qaeda launched their infamous attack on 9-11, he actually decided to do something about it. George W. Bush proposed that we take offensive action against our enemies before they visit their intentions on us further—the novel concept of “preemption.”

It is a good idea, whose time came and went decades ago, but better late than never.

For his bold efforts on the behalf of all civilized nations he is now being politically attacked on a global scale. “There are no WMDs.” “Iraq was never a threat.” “There is no connection between Iraq and al Qaeda.” “Bush lied, people died.” So go the liberal attack mantras. The depth of the vitriolic lying is unprecedented.

Such hate-filled propaganda has a tendency to develop a momentum all its own. People fear hatred. And hatred expressed so loudly, so universally by institutions we trust (yes sadly many people still trust the mass media), creates a natural tendency among the voting public to believe there must be something to it. And with the information blackout the press has imposed, there is little opportunity for average Americans to learn the truth. (For example, the 9-11 Commission, and now the Senate Intelligence Committee, have reported extensive ties between Iraq and al Qaeda and new evidence suggests these ties may have been even stronger than originally thought, but you won’t find that in the nightly news or your local paper).

Leftists, like Michael Moore for example, entitle themselves to excoriate anyone who doesn’t agree with them. Loud, vociferous attacks are a favorite tactic of the Left. They deliberately drown out the facts. Their empty rhetoric finds voice in media outlets like CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, the New York Times, the LA Times and others, which give it an unwarranted air of legitimacy.

In this situation, it is easier for the average American to go along with the angry mob rather than challenge or even question it. In fact it can be literally dangerous not to. Those of us who doubt or even question these messages find ourselves ridiculed at parties, shunned at the office and threatened in the street. I don’t even bother to challenge such attacks any more. It’s pointless. These people aren’t looking for other views; they’re looking to silence them.

Such are the standard techniques of agitation and propaganda, and our vaunted fourth estate is propagandizing on a scale that would make Joseph Goebbels proud. The leftwing media attack machine hides behind their first amendment “right” to say whatever they want. Pundits of all stripes hastily acknowledge they have a right to do so. But do they really?

In the early days of our Republic, when saner heads prevailed, the Sedition Act of 1789 was put to paper. Section II defined seditious acts to include:

…any person [who] shall write, print, utter. Or publish, or shall cause or procure to be written, printed, uttered or published, or shall knowingly and willingly assist or aid in writing, printing, uttering or publishing any false, scandalous and malicious writing or writings against the government of the United States, or either house of the Congress of the United States, or the President of the United States, with intent to defame the said government, or either house of the said Congress, or the said President, or to bring them, or either of them, into contempt or disrepute; or to excite against them, or either or any of them, the hatred of the good people of the United States…

A similarly worded U.S. Sedition Act was passed in 1918, which also defines the activities and assertions of Michael Moore in his repulsive propaganda piece Fahrenheit 9-11 and other public statements he’s made.

In days past, our leaders recognized the difference between legitimate “opinion” and inflammatory propaganda, the goal of which is to divide and disrupt our fragile democracy.

Michael Moore, his allies in the press and the liberal political establishment don’t care about Iraq. They don’t “support the troops”. They don’t even care if terrorists attack the U.S. (After all, we deserve it, according to them). All they seem to care about is regaining their lost political power. And they will do anything they can get away with to succeed.

As if to prove my point, the Left has gone farther left than in any election cycle in recent memory. If the world were flat, they would have fallen off the left side by now. Instead they circumnavigated the globe and reemerged on the far right with the Nazis—their true soul mates.

They attack, they shout down, they threaten, they bully and they lie, for no other reason than to discredit the President and improve the electoral prospects of their patsies. There is certainly no benefit to “the troops” in Iraq and Afghanistan, who have to fight off insurgencies now emboldened by our domestic political divisions. There is no benefit to the American people either, who face new terrorist threats for the same reason.

A new terrorist attack in the U.S. is almost certain to occur this year. After all that’s happened, what terrorist wouldn’t think an attack could alter the election’s outcome? We can thank the Left for that.

President George W. Bush is far from perfect. Who is? But John Kerry and his surrogates like Michael Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Streisand and the other drunken idiots who are crawling out from under their Hollywood rock to proclaim themselves spokespeople for America, in fact demonstrate their utter contempt for us. They are not only threatening to split our country in half, but in so doing are inviting our enemies to capitalize on this vulnerability. They deserve to be put out with the trash. Now!

    Bring back the Sedition Act!

This guy is really good. He puts on quit a spin.

"Congratulations Liberals, you got your way yet again." - Despite the Rupublican Adminsitration and Republican controlled Congress and the hard sacrifices of our Armed Services, he thinks Michael Moore and the Dixie Chicks are the ones to give Iraq their own government?

"2,000 Lawyers"? It was by order of our Commander in Chief that Saddam be handed over to the new Iraqi Goverment. This act ensured that the new goverment start to cement legitimacy and power. It had nothing to do with the minority liberals or Linda Ronstadt.

These are good things achieved by the United States, and he manages to blame the liberal artists for them.

Mr Simpson makes the case to lock up the artists. He may as well make a case to lock up the Nobel scholars and scientist voicing displeasure while he's at it.

Hmm. Well, I agree and DISagree with some of what Mr. Simpson say's. As ever though, the trick here in the good ol U.S.of A. is where to draw the lines. When does opinion become sedition? I personally HATE Michael Moore, and his supporters, and wish a painful slow death on em, but, they DO have the right to say what they say.

If we were, as a nation, to give into the fear of opposing points of view, then you do nothing but give those views power. Least, that's what I think. Banning things has never stopped them, onlymade them more powerfull.
