Delayed Entry Program
What is the purpose of this program? For people to get in shape? I'm in great shape but don't know a single thing about USMC from rank or terms. Should I do the dep?

You will have no choice but to be in the DEP for some period of time, up to a year. Yes, DEP is an opportunity to get into shape if you need it, although your recruiter may still require you to attend Poolee functions even if you are fit.
Another thing DEP will do is provide you with the basic information you should know before going to boot camp (ranks, etc).

When you get to bootcamp, you'll be thankful you spent time in the DEP as a poolee - for myriad reasons.
One example is, if you can get a couple people to enlist while in the DEP, you'll be guaranteed a promotion upon graduation from bootcamp. Depending on how good of a salesman you are, the longer you spend in your DEP, the more opportunities you'll have to attain this incentive.

Besides a bigger paycheck, it also puts you ahead of your peers.
