0231 or 0511

Hey Marines, new to the forums. I'm a poolee and have been in DEP since Feb. I'm joining the Corps as a reservist. I have a signed contract with the Corps for an 0511 mos. I've been talking with my recruiter and he pulled a few strings and told me that I could get Intel (0231) I just recently took my dlab but failed it. I'd like to possibly join the FBI in the future but that's me just having high expectations. I have this fear that I'll do bad in my mos school and get dropped into a crummy mos. I'm assuming the Intel mos is extremely competitive. I have found very little information on 0511 however though. I have a GT score of 114.

I also read this passage on about military for 0231 which confuses me a bit if anyone could clarify:
"Selected Marine Corps Reservists without previous active duty intelligence experience who successfully complete Phases I and II of the MAGTF Intelligence Specialist Reserve Course, NMITC, Dam Neck, VA, will be awarded MOS 0231 as an additional MOS only. SMCR Marines holding additional MOS 0231 may receive primary MOS 0231 after serving 3 years in the billet MOS unless sooner waived by CMC (DirInt)."

I'm mainly looking for some information from Marines in these mos's. Any information at all is appreciated!

All Marines are basic riflemen at heart. A different MOS dosen't mean anything, just another job while waiting to perform your basic task of a rifleman. Good luck to you.

A buddy of mine is an 0511(MAGTF Planner) and he loves it, he is active duty though. He works directly for a one star general with a team of other Marines. I cant go into detail because I really don't know alot about what he does exactly but again I know he enjoys it thoroughly.

Keep in mind also you will be a reservist so unless you are an absolute moron you really cant be put into another MOS unless it is available at the unit you are contracted to.

0511's are basically a logistics piece. They will receive the 5 W's( who, what,where, why and when) they will take that information and use it to generate lift requirements for deployments, movements, excersizes etc.
