How about you learn to use the SearchFeatures here on our site.

Then return and ask an Intelligent Question on what you don't understand

IS there an INSULT in that ???????????????????????????????
Never said insult; the "Intelligent Question" remark was aimed at me asking a stupid question, which weren't any.

Sorry there's no real connection; was looking towards 58xx for law enforcement afterwards, but I'm not so sure about that (missionary) so I'm looking for something a little more tip of the spear.

Haha it's all good, thanks anyway!

    People like US are MARINES!

Watch your tone there, young man. Any type of disrespect from wannabes or poolees will not be tolerated.
You came here on a Marine Corps site asking questions that have been asked and answered many times before. You don't like the answers that may have been given, well....I suggest you grow some think skin because if you can't handle the criticism here on the internet, then you're not going to be able to handle it when and if you get into OUR Marine Corps.

I'm pretty sure my two questions haven't been asked before; I've looked through this forum as a guest for months. As soon as I mentioned 58xx you posted a few links about it (that I've already read), which wasn't my question, just something I mentioned.

And there's no disrespect intended. And when I said "people like you" get all high hoarse, I didn't mean all Marines (or I would have said all Marines). I meant him, who was being all high hoarse.

And I'll be able to hack it just fine, just not gonna take garbage over the internet.

Marines are suppose to represent a high level of character; nobody likes a prideful jerk. Gives the Corps a bad rep, ya know.

His specific questions haven't really been asked and answered at all. I swear, some of you people skim and see the words "RECON" or whatever and just assume that they're asking the same old questions. He obviously isn't.

And I agree with him completely that having people talk down to you on a message board has essentially nothing to do with whether you will or won't "hack it" in the Marines.

    Purgatory, to answer your questions...

    1) No, you don't need to be a "career guy" to get into Recon. Best bet is to ship on a Recon contract, which means you'd go to Bootcamp and SOI and then have the opportunity to try out for Recon. If you make it, you'd start the Recon pipeline, if you don't you'd be assigned some other 03xx MOS. But it shouldn't require any more than a 4 year contract. Most Recon Marines these days don't get the opportunity to go through the whole pipeline at the beginning because of deployments and workups.
    2) As far as PTSD goes, the rate is around 12.5% of returning vets get diagnosed with PTSD, but there are a lot more people who just show some of the symptoms, or minor cases of the symptoms, but don't have full blown PTSD.

So you're saying that a Vietnam Veteran with combat experience is giving the Corps (something you are not apart of) a bad name because you got your feelings hurt

He does make a point, to a certain extent. He asked a question, wrote it up intelligently, specifically mentioned in his post that he's only been able to find Army information by searching, and then was told to "search". Well, if his very specific questions aren't answered by searching then yes, it is giving the Marine Corps a bad image when people won't take two seconds to answer very specific questions for potential recruits. I mean, if they aren't willing to help online where there's very little effort involved to help someone, who knows if they're going to help when it is a far more serious question/situation.
