From my diary and book: August 14, 1945
Japan surrendered. I was in bed when the news came. We had a small radio in our tent, and we left it on all night to get the details.
I got up at 4am the next morning. The war still wasn't officaially over, but everyone seemed happy.
That afternoon we had orders to be ready to ship out in 48 hours, so everyone was real busy. We got all new equipment just like we were going to have a parade. All the trucks had to be painted.
