Blackening, dog tags or old chevrons.
I normally just buy new chevrons. But I found myself wondering if there was a way to "re-black" them besides Mnew, seeing as it tends to flake off real easy... I wonder if flat black spray paint might hold up better.

Easy, get several cans of auto paint at the local store. Make sure you add several coats. Just make sure you match the colors before applying or else your chevrons will stand out next to others.

I always kept a can of flat black spray paint on hand. Just make sure you strip off the old stuff before spraying. Also hold the can back about 10 inches so that it doesn't spray on to thick. You will loose what little detail there is to the chevrons.

In a pinch, I used to use a Sharpee on the chevrons.
