Inquiry: "Honorary" promotions USMC?
(Still on this case....)
The last few years, news articles have carried stories of former Marines, etc. receiving "honorary" promotions.
Among these are R. Lee Ermey, Gomer Pyle, etc.
While there are provisions to appoint "honorary Marines," honorary promotions seem to be not provided for. Perhaps my reference below is outdated, or there is another reference covering these cases.
Ref
MARINE CORPS ORDER P1400.32C Subj: MARINE CORPS PROMOTION MANUAL, VOLUME 2, ENLISTED PROMOTIONS (SHORT TITLE: MARCORPROMMAN, VOL 2, ENLPROM) 1203 5. There are no provisions to issue a temporary, honorary or probationary enlisted appointment.
