    Biggest Accomplishment?

I hear all the time "You wont believe the things you can accomplish." But I never hear anyone give specific examples. What kind of obstacles did you overcome at boot? This is shot at anyone who feels the need to answer - even the "older" Marines...

Years after active duty, I was a roofing foreman. We did a roof in St Louis during a heat wave. Surface tempature was 143 degrees!

I took care of the crew, no heat casualties, and got the job done on time. I have no doubt that my Marine training had a lot to do with it!

Damn Cook, you got 3 minutes?

    We had "5, 4, 3, 2, 1, YOU ARE DONE"

And that was after PT. We stank for 3 months!

    My greatest accomplishemnt..
I had never done any physical training before boot. So, for me, accomplishing and getting a 1st on PFT.
Now that I am "OLD", don't think I would get a 1st! But I would do my best because the Corps taught me to finish what I start and do my best. Don't just "try" get it done.

    Colleen, you liar!!

Your biggest accomplishment was being able to drink a twelve pack of beer, drive home, wake up the next morning and remember the name of the man you were with last night!!!!

First class PFT? What events were included in this physical fitness test???

    SF,

    Bruce

In boot we did this 5 mile speed hump with like 40lb packs, in less then an hour. I couldn't even move my legs. It was at night so that probally made it easier, but everybody kept tripping over tree root and divets in the ground it was pretty funny. We were moving pretty fast it felt like we were on a rollorcoaster. You just watch the man in front of you and time flys by.

Our whole Company did a 50 mile hump in 33 hours with 40 pound rucks and for me the PRC-104 (about 14 lbs), finished it off with some pushup (logic was, you got to get there and still be able fight).

Someone had a hair up his ass when he thought this one up.

"BOONDOCKER SUPREME" a little walk in the sun.
Summer of 1959 the 5th Marines made a 150 miles walk from 29 Palms to Camp Margarita.
    With full combat gear.
Think back, I think it took five days to complete that little walk.
Sgt. George H. Morrow aka Nomad was in Headguarters Company and I was in Charlie 1/5.
We didn't know each other than.
Many years later, I mentioned that I had been in the 5th Marines.
That got think back to the "BOONDOCKER SUPREME".
Nomad still had his certificate declaring him a "BOONDOCKER SUPREME".
Mine must have got lost somewhere, in all the move that I made.
Those Officers and NCO's of the 5th Marines at that time were all veterans of Korea.
They believed in being in shape to fight after a little walk of 150 miles.
Biggest "Biggest Accomplishment" done by a 19 year old Marine.

Semper Fidelis and "ALL THE WAY" with the 1st Bn 5th Marines!!!
