Marines,
I have tried looking up how they decide if you're going to get MP or Corrections Specialist. I really want to be an MP but don't want to be a Corrections Specialist. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Go reserve. Thats the only way you can choose which one you become.

If you go active you'll sign up as 58xx. When you get to MP school they'll "officially" tell you what you'll be doing and what base you'll be at. I'm not 100% sure how it works as I'm reserve, but NO ONE in my class (~30-40 Marines) went corrections. It was also about an even split of PMO and field.

Also, in MP school you do NO corrections work, that is a separate school house.
