Make 'em up. They're more fun that way.

    Cadence history

I was at a pool function a couple weeks ago, and our SNCOIC brought up an interesting point on one of our moto runs. What is a 'layo'? (not sure if that is the correct spelling) Every cadence seems to start with 'left right layo, left right layo, low right layo, lefty right low'. So, I thought I would pose the question to the Marines on this forum... What is a layo? Have cadences always started with this sequence, or did layo form from another word over time?
I know this isn't an important question, but I thought the history of cadences might be interesting.

Interesting. Thanks for finding that! I'm guessing it was as simple as doing a search on google? If it was, I kind of feel dumb for asking!

Military cadence generally speaking is curiously similar to a Gandy Dancers rhythm

Personally I figured it came from the word left. It keeps the cadance a lot nicer if you are singing layo or low at certain points in the cadance as opposed to left.

    Marine Corps Cadence

If this is in the wrong section I am sorry please move it. I looked but couldn't seem to find a section that this thread would belong in.

I know some of the older folk here might not be so swift with a computer especially if your anything like my dad so I thought I would help you by adding all the cadences in one thread so you wouldn't have to fret over trying to find them. So I recently bought all three volumes of run to cadence with the U.S Marines and decided to upload all 100+ cadences to Youtube and share it with the rest of you.

*Im still in the process of uploading them to Youtube.*

Gee Felony....I guess I qualify as as "older folk." But I've been working with and using computers since in was in the Corps (Please learn how to spell it) some 40 years ago. While I'm sure your help is appreciated, try not to be condescending...Considering that all of us are using computers to post on this forum....

FelonyJ, this forum is for Marine Corps. poolees, most of which are the same age as you but less ignorant. I am quite sure that just about everyone on this site is well aware of how to use a computer.

On the subject of USMC Cadence... there are three volumes available for purchase on iTunes. My personal favorite is Volume 2, and I highly recommend them to any poolee looking to run or workout to cadence. Get motivated.

Where can you get this CD? I'd have to put them on an IPOD and listen to them during cross Country practice, I find Cadences MOTO as Hell...

FelonyJ, what you said is very disrespectful to quite a few *cough*all*cough* members of this forum. RESPECT IS A TWO WAY STREET. If you do not show respect, then you will recieve none. Those "older folks" as you like to call them, are Marines, and you should refer to them as such, and you should learn to address them as such.
