paper sleeping bags?
This may sound crazy but my Dad swore that when he was in the Corps (64-68) they used paper sleeping bags one night. He was not sure if it was a test run type thing or what the deal was, but he said they were a heavy paper that might have been waxed for waterproofing. He said in his book the test failed in a big way, spent a long cold night wrapped up in little more than butchers paper.
Anyone experience this?

Were they testing sleeping bags....or the liners to go inside sleeping bags?

He said all they were given the paper to use as sleeping bags. He said it just happened the one time, which was enough.

Well, he said these weren't overly warm, spent the night shivering. Could be the same thing. When Mail Call was on the History channel he talked about sending in a letter asking R. Lee about it, but never did.

December 1963, I was at ITR, Camp Pendelton, and we used the paper sleeping bags for an over-nighter in the field. They made us strip down to our scivies for a very chilly night in a shelter half.

That would be it. Dad went was in in '64. Thank you, if he were still around he would appreciate the confirmation. I think he thought he had dreamed it all up since no one else remembered going through it.
