    2 Marines Die in Helmand Province

    Two North Carolina-based Marines died Thursday while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan, the Defense Department announced today.

    Lance Cpl. Tyler O. Griffin, 19, of Voluntown, Conn., was assigned to 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines.

    Sgt. Frank J. World, 25, of Buffalo, N.Y., was assigned to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marines. Both units are based at Camp Lejeune.

    Further details were not immediately available.

    R.I.P. Marines. I am in transit to return from Marjah, Afghanistan where 1st Bn, 2nd Marines just arrived less than a month ago.
