The best thing would be when you earn the title of being a Marine and that comes from the handshake of your SDI, mine had tears rolling down his face, Never Forget, Semper Fidelis.

Shaking hands with my Drill Instructors and Senior Drill Instructor.

The chow got me through the days, took each day chow to chow, and deffinatly shaking hands with my Drill Instructors.

Mail call, chow, and every night when you get to sleep. All 3 of these things let me know I was a little closer to getting off the island.

I'm not gonna lie... the chow was pretty good.

But, more than anything I just enjoyed watching my Drill Instructors day to day. My Senior Drill Instructor was Drill Instructor of the year once, and runner up twice before, and my others were just as squared away.

Being taught and led by people like that is an awesome feeling.

Definitely shaking hands with the DIs after Graduation, and hearing them say "Congrats Marines". Getting fitted for our Alpha Dress Uniforms was a great feeling. Chow was ok, mail call was good and Field Day was too. Knowing that Mt. MF-er was done with-priceless!

I'll have to say working there. I spent 3 years working on PI out at WFT BN. It was the Best Duty Station I've been too. The whole Command was like a big family. The Colonel was on his golf cart about once a month with the bed of it full of ice and cold beer going from shop to shop! Went through there as a recruit and didn't think to much about what I liked during training.

Everything after 1st phase was pretty enjoyable for the most part. You grow so close to everyone it is truely amazing. Watching yourself and others, who just 3 month prior were selfish and nasty, work together to accomplish a goal is motivational. And shaking the DIs hands, knowing you have made them proud just as much as you, is top notch.

I would have to say the best time I had, was when i was on ammo duty. Up north I got picked as ammo recruit for the recruits that where a week or two ahead of us. Had to go to the range at stupid 30 and help sort ammo, and issue it. After that we got to stay on the range all day, down at the back of the range. The Range Marines had a tent, with cammie net surrounding it. Inside was a bunch of couches, chairs, etc. Not a single DI was around, so we just chilled out, ate MRE's, BS'd back and forth. It was awesome.
