Platoon Numbers
Good afternoon Marines, just had a question about platoon numbers and their relative training battalions
I was out at a bar on Saturday night, talking to one of my buddies about my decision to join, and a guy came up to me asking me if I was in the Corps. I told him I'm a poolee, leaving in march, and the conversation continued. He said he was a Marine, in the infantry, and just got out last year. (all, very vaguely) I eventually asked him about his Parris Island experience/what battalion/company he was in. He sad he was in 1st Batallion, Platoon 30something (he kind of mumbled the last part). But the 3 made me do a double take.
I kept my trap shut, but I was always under the assumption that platoon numbers matched the battalion I/e 1st BN has numbers in the 1000's, 2nd 2000's etc. Is this right?

Thanks Marines. Should have gotten his name. The whole situation seemed real sketchy, but I wasn't going to be the one to call him out.
Have a Happy New Years.

It was safer for you not to call him out. For all we know, he was some kind of special circumstance.
Leave calling outs to Marines.

Nothing special about mine: Platoon 3, MCRD, San Diego, 1948
DI: SSgt D. D. Gardner, POW of the Japanese, 23 Dec, 1941 - Sept., 1945.
And I'd like to do it once more, there was none of this polorization ****, we were all the same. There was no political correctness, no conflict resolution, we all went to Church and the brigs & Portsmouth were all full of **** birds, all the time. Gung Ho.

I would be very suprised if a Marine forgot his platoon #. If he did, he would be 200 years old and I would make an exception.

on top of the first digit corresponding to the battalion, the companies are organized like so...
1st bn- a,b,c,d
2nd bn- e,f,g,h
3rd bn- i, k, l, m (no j company)
4th bn- n, o, p
I caught a poser saying he was 1st bn, india co. that makes no sense at all.

You're blowing my mind right now.
Do you have any idea why there's no Juliet Company? Homophobia?

Hell he might have thought in his own mind that Capital M was a spy for one of the other boot camp battalions...you never know.
A bar is a good place to find a bunch of wannabees that have a little bit of liquid courage to hear them talk they fought the battle of San Juan and Montezuma single handily.
But you did the right thing...wait until you become a Marine then out the poser for what he is.

Doesn't the 4th BN company's depend on how many females enlisted during the time? Because I'm pretty sure there was a Juliet company when i was there in the summer. There was also a Quebec Company when I was there, they were 3rd BN.
