My friend who just graduated boot camp on Sept. 11 had a kid in his Platoon who only did 5 pull ups on the final PFT. NO ONE liked him, he was that kid who was ALWAYS all talk, but never was able to put out when it mattered. He is still a Marine, but I can tell you right now, thats not a great start to your Marine Corps career. High PFT helps you gain rank, which helps you make more out of your career in the Marine Corps. I wish you the best of luck, but please look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself... Are you REALLY trying your hardest? Are you giving your 120% or just 40%? If you really ask yourself and be completely honest with yourself and you say no to both, you might want to look at your decision and make sure this is what is really for you. If it is, GET OUT THERE AND BUST YOUR ****ING *** AND GET SOME!

I don't even know where to begin. I was joking about being "cool" with the Sergeant Major, first of all. I understand that due to MY mistakes, I might be SOL. And well if that happens, then GSE is always available. Stop telling me that it's my fault. I KNOW it's my fault already. I've had that drilled into me every day for the last 2 months by 5 recruiters. I'm not *****ing, I'm not moaning, I'm not sitting down and saying "all is lost." I'm still working out, still working on my IST (3 pullups, 105 crunches, 10:03 today), and still hoping for the best. Not much else I can do. I understand where you are coming from, all of you. You're under the impression that I'm not giving it my all. I am, and then some because this is my punishment for my mistakes and I've got to do this. Not for anyone else, but for myself. My days consist of going to the gym, helping out around the office, and improving. Every day for the last 2 months have been like that. And I wouldn't have it any other way. Why? Because I deserve it. Because I need it. I'm not looking for no damn sympathy, not sure where you got that idea. Sympathy isn't going to get my chin over that bar. I get it. My mistakes set off a chain reaction of other negative outcomes. My fault. I'm correcting it now. I'm up to 3 pull-ups and I'm going to keep getting better. It's unfortunate that my idiocy (there's no other excuse for it) resulted in my job being lost but again, it's my fault and there's nothing I can do except try to redeem myself. Not just in my recruiter's eyes, but in my own. You think I'm not disapppointed? You think I'm not kicking myself in the *** every day because of this? You're damn wrong. I'm working for a 300 PFT (someday soon) and then some. If I'm not at the gym, I'm doing a max set of pull-ups in the office. If I'm not doing that, I'm running. And MarinesFTW, I'm not that kid. I'm honest, hard-working, and willing to do whatever it takes. I work my tail off every day. I made my mistakes and not a day goes by that I don't regret them.

Along with the 0 pull-ups at the beginning of this thread. You want to join to corps, but cant do one pull-up, how are you gonna throw my limp body over your shoulder and carry me outta cross-fire. Its not about you, its about your future brothers, its about the Corps. If youre not up to it, youre not up to it. Im going in doing 19 (as of today) pulls up, flat benching 225 and I weigh 146 lbs. I know that a time may come when the lives of those around me may depend on my physical and mental ability. My life is focused around school and PT so I can be one of the best. If you want to be one of the best you have to step it up.

PS. I may only be a DEP, Marine flaming I'm okay with, other DEP I hope this would instill a little pep in your step.

My life is focused around PT. And as for "step it up", what do you think I'm doing? Sitting at home eating cupcakes all day?

You should of put in your first thread that you had now improved your IST and that your doing this and that and this and that to improve yourself and that you learned your lesson. Your first post makes you look moaning and *****ing. I see that you have improved and thats good, keep it up, getting started is the hardest part, I've been in your shoes. I use to PT all the time, then after a while I stopped, and trust me, it doesn't take long to fall back down. All I ever did was pull ups and stopped everything else. I ran a 9:15-9:30, 100+ crunches with like 5 pull ups. This was before I even enlisted. Yeah, everything sucks now and my pull ups arn't great, but I learned a lesson, and it will follow me the rest of my life. Keep it up, stay motovated, and good luck!

Thank you. Sorry if I came off like that, it's just that I'm frustrated. New London as in New London, CT?

"Poolees down talking to another Poolee like they are already Marines.. Get over yourselves guys."

Sounded more to me like tough love. I wish him the best, but only because he is now exerting the effort and doing the work to succeed. I have little pity for anyone that says how hard they have it when all they do is sit around complaining. His first post said nothing of the fact that he has improved. It sounds as if there is already a fire under his butt, I just hope that myself and others threw some gasoline on it. I am in no way talking to him like I am a Marine. If you feel that way, then I fear that no one has never ridden your ass to help you acheive something more. If you can't take criticism, I would suggest staying home with mom & dad.
