where do you go to get real news on what is REALLY going on in afghanistan? i check Marine corp news and The long war journal.are there any other good sites? the tv isnt worth watching

There is some overlap on that site with other sources you have mentioned, but there is also some good gouge that you might not find elsewhere.

I wasn't going to answer this, because I am not a Marine, but I am a Mom with two in the 'sand'. I look for every single tidbit I can find....good and bad. The more I know, the better I feel. I don't watch the news here, I think it is sanitized beyond reality and very skewed one direction or another, depending on what channel you are on.

These sites might not be any better, but they are what I scour to find info on my son's.

I read three blogs too, of people that are over there. Oh, NPR is doing a brill series on 2/8. They have been putting out a story a week on them.

That's what I do.
When I don't have the time to search news sites, I troll the military forums.

I have found you get better news out of the UK. They still have real reporters.

Hope you dont mind me asking - but what is the real mission in Afghanistan? i know i have heard the term operation Enduring Freedom, but i thought that pertained to Iraq. So what is the real objective? We have a marine still at MOS, field artillery, but my dad (retired Army) says he doesnt think field artillery will play a big part in Afghanistan. He says US forces need to win over the locals.
Any thoughts or experiences you share will be appreciated.
