Rely on your fellow recruits, or soon-to-be brothers, if you make it through. You all will go through stuff together at Boot Camp, playing DI games and whatnot. Don't turn backs on each other because of the stress or some small conflict. Trust me, you will not get through Recruit Training by yourself. Help each other out, motivate each other. At the end of the day, when you get that Eagle, Globe, and Anchor in your hand and are called the Marine for the first time, you'll feel it.

Yes you do need your fellow recruits and later....after graduation your fellow Marines to accomplish the mission.......TEAMWORK!

However before one can be motivated by others.....YOU still have to be motivated YOURSELF......or you are useless to motivate or be motivated by others!

There are a lot of great tips here to start with....take the ball and run!

soak 2 t-shirts a day with sweat, watch flags of our fathers........realize how lucky you are that you chose the Marines.

I can send you motivating recruit mail if you want.
Get back to me on it.
Just imagine how you'll feel when you FINALLY earn that title.
It made all of 2nd battalion cry..I was standing right across from a male and he was SOBBING. Its just...an unbelievable experience. You'll never forget the pride.

I've been in the DEP for about 280 days roughly, and sometimes I find myself getting less movtivated. What I did to regain that moto is find some Marine Corps cadences or jodies and put em on your ipod/mp3 player, or go to youtube find ya some good Marine videos and watch em that'll send your motivation sky high.

I don't know about PI, but if you go to San Diego, that video you'll watch so many times throughout Recruit Training AND MCT/ITB that you know the whole video by heart. The song became many Marines' ringtone after Boot as well. It's a great video, but I know when I was in the classroom at MCT they showed us the video and everyone went "AGAIN?!" lol.

But as a 17 YO kid from the hills of Tennessee that had only been to Nashville one time in his live (seen the big city), I found it very motivational to think of the day I graduated and got to wear the Tropical uniform with the Barracks Cover, all shined up with spit and polish.

I also found time to thank God for the raise in pay I got with this new job. The civillian world paid $1.25 per hour (minimum wage) in those days and really considering the benefits I got I was making more in the Corps than I was at home ($123.30 gross per month), of course this was 1969.

The point is, motivation comes from within! All the Drill Instructors, or anyone else, can do is throw it out there....you have to be able to catch it and hold on to it. As the old saying goes "you can lead a mule to water, but you can't make him drink"!

You seem to have what it takes poolee, SELF MOTIVATION! That's rare thing in this old world today. That type of motovation can not be made smaller if you really want the end result.

IF, and I say IF, you make it thru boot camp and become a Marine....two years from now, you will think the time flew by!

My advise.....find a poolee, or two, that can pal up with you and keep each other motivated! Help that wannabee pass that ASVAB, do something for your recruiter! I know he'll appreciate it and the wannabees will as well.

    That's my 2 cents,

    Dave

Corporal has stated on what I do. I'm in a group with 3 or 4 others and it's nice to have a group of people to help motivate each other for those extra pull ups, that extra mile or the extra few sit ups.

How'd you like Family Night? Were you motivated at all by the Drill Instructor Demonstration?

Thank you everyone! All of your tips have helped a lot, the video, really did.

And BRockwell, yes I was very motivated! I actually asked a recruiter about you but then I completely forgot your last name hahaha. Glad to see you are still on here though! Are you North Columbus or South? I was 2nd Squad Leader at the function though from RSS Lancaster.

Phantom Blooper raises a good point, but I'll tell you what I do:

Here's what I think about. I think about all the people who know I'm going, and then think about what it would be like to have to tell them all that I had to come home because I couldn't hack it. Think about it humor, patriotism, all of that stuff will only get you so far; it comes down to YOU. Also, when you are cold, tired, and hungry what are you going to do? Go home, get a hot shower, put on comfortable clothes, and have a good meal? But then what? You'll regreat the day you left for the rest of your life.

I'm from North Columbus. Do you remember when we went into the restraunt, we had to walk through the right side of it? I was the guy sitting about 50 feet from the door against the wall. Blue and white button up with khaki trousers. I got stuck beside a couple mothers who were hitting the wine a little heavy....

In the formation, I was in the third row back in the middle. Oddly enough, there's 2 other Poolee's that stick together with me and I was right in between both of them.

There were so many people there...but I vaguely recall the guy about 50 feet from the door haha. I was the one who was paid ten dollars to ask the D.I what he does if a recruit laughs or breaks bearing....The last question asked.
