This is a follow on to the Sgt's post (thewookie) So after i graduated from boot camp and went on my 10 day boot leave, i started my Recruiters Assistance. At the time im a Private and just getting out of bootcamp im very proud of my accomplishment and very head strong. So myself, another Private, a PFC, Corporal, and a Sergeant (My Recruiter) are walking through the Florida Mall trying to Recruit people. Take in mind everyone is stoping what there doing and eyeing us up and down due to us all been in Dress Blue Deltas and looking mighty sharp might i add As we were walking down the mall we saw what looked to me a extremely in shape Marine wearing woodlands utilities coming towards us. As he noticed hes walking towards 5 Marines he naturally walks over at this point im thinking "What the hell is that Marine doing in the Mall wearing that uniform" As he got closer i saw alittle shiney shiney on his collar and started to fall to the back of the crowd due to just coming out of Boot and the whole Officer thing is alittle scary. Also he was rocking the Gold Leafs along with a Recon badge and a scuba bubble My Sergeant looks at us and says "let me talk to him" so they exchange hellos and semper fi ect ect while this is taking place i notice he looks as if he just got off the Drill field with an extremely squared away uniform although his cover was tucked into his right sleve and just holding its self on his shoulder. This to me is alittle odd. Sergeant starts to talk to him and says "Sir, why are you in the mall wearing this uniform" he says "Im from a Recon unit out of Hawaii" Sergeant: okay, but why are you in this uniform sir? Major: "Sarge" im a Major, you can not talk to me like this Sergeant: Sir, i understand but your not following orders Major: I am an officer if i want to be in the mall i will Sergeant: Sir i need to see some ID please Major: Look at my tattoo look at my tattoo "As he points to a devil dog tattoo on his arm" Sergeant: thats all good sir but i still need ID Major: Look, Look at my dog tags Sarge Sergeant: Sir, if you cant show me some ID you need to leave to mall Now at this point there getting in each others faces as we are starting to relise this guy could be a fake. so my sergeant tells us to walk away him been the E-5 we did what he said even though this guy was 4 times bigger in size then him and we watched from a distance. I see my sergeant after a few seconds of mouthing back and forth not been able to hear whats been said i see him grab his cover from the Majors shoulder and throw it behind a small stand in the middle of the mall. so we think theres going to be fists getting thrown, so we all went over and made a hasty 360 around them both like we learned in bootcamp Haha The Sergeant tells us to stop there while he escorts the Major out of the Mall, we followed from a distance and watched carefully, as we see his go outside and into the parking lot the Major gets into his car and drives away. Sergeant comes back and opens his hand to our surprise we see two gold leafs and a recon badge scuba bubble and a major leaf sticker from the guys car. He was imposing a Marine Officer and said he was walking through the mall to see if people approach him so he can talk trash about the Marine Corps, and he said he was put upto it by the local Army Recruiting Office. ohh and he started crying once he had been found out to be a fake and begged the Sgt to not press charges. This was a crazy thing to witness first hand been such a new Marine. just makes me wonder how many other people try to do this and get away with it. Sorry it was long but i wanted to try and make it as real as possible for people reading. Rah! Cpl Jaques

I've seen people impersonating Marine enlisted personnel, usually high schoolers or people against any war going on, and some people trying to support the military. I don't know what to make of it. I know that it annoys me to see it no matter what the case, because A) They didn't earn that uniform, and B) They are using the uniform in a way its not supposed to be used.
What would I do in a situation like that?

Are you sure the are not MCROTC? because they get all our new uniforms and look just like us. instead of cross rifles they have giny lamps

Even if he was, it doesn't explain why he was wearing oak leafs and in cammies. He may have been prior service (explains the tattoo and dog tags) and figured he'd act cool and dress up to get attention.

He could have pulled that off if he was wearing chevrons, but brass? There's hardly any Marine officers in central Florida. Even though I have seen a Major walk into a Home Depot in Alpha's back in 07'.

I hate how people impersonate the Marines, even more if it's intended to disrespect us. I have heard the term "The ultimate flattery is impersonation", but I don't think that applies to our Corps, we've (Mostly you all) have earned far too much for some random retard to just put on our uniform and claim to be one of us.

The only thing Major about that guy was his issues. Probably helped him pick up some putang because he was a total nerd otherwise. The Sgt. definitely set a good example for the others to follow!
