If I remember correctly 1/8 was the 1st battalion of the 8th Marine Regiment. The 8th Marines is part of the 2nd Marine Division. The 2nd Mar Div was never sent to South VietNam.
However many Marines from the 2nd MarDiv were TAD to various units in RVN on occasion.
