Physical Standards for;
Appointment, Enlistment,and Induction.


The purpose of DOD medical standards is to ensure that medically
qualified personnel,Accepted into the Armed Forces of the United States are;

[1].Free of contagious diseases that would likely endanger the health of other personnel.

[2].Free of medical conditions or physcial defects that would require excessive time lost from duty for necessary treatment or hospitalization or would likely result in separation from the Marine corp for medical unfitness.

[3].Medically capable of satisfactorily completing training.

[4].Medically adaptable to the military environment without the
necessity of geographical area liomitations.

[5].Medically capable of performing duties without aggravation of existing physical defects or medical conditions.

Disqualifying Medical Conditions.

[1].Abdominal Organs and Gastrointestinal System. [2].Blood and Bloodforming Tissue Diseases.[3]Body Build.[4].Dental.[5].Disorder with psychotic features.[6].Ears.[7].Endocrine and
Metabolic Disorders.[8].Upper Extremities.[9].Lower Extremities.[10].Miscellaneous Conditions of the Extremities.[11].Neurotic,
Anxiety, Mood, somatoform, Dissociative,or Fectitious Disorder.
[12. Personality, Conduct, and Behavior Disorders.[13]. Psychosexual conditions.[14].Eyes.[15].Vision.[16].General and Miscellaneous Conditions and Defects[17]. Genitalia and Reproductive Organs.[18].Head,[19].Hearing.[20].Hearing.[21].
Heart.[22].Height.[23]Lungs,Chest well, Pleura,and Mediastinum.
[24].Mouth.[25].Neck.[26].Neurological Disorders.[27].Nose,Sinuses,and Larynx.[28].Skin and Cellular Tissues.[29]
Spine and Sacroilliac Joints.[30].Substance Misuse.[31].Systemic Diseases.[32].Tumors and Malignant Diseases.[33]. Urinary System.[34].Vascular system.[35].Weight.[36].Misc.Conditions Not otherwise Listed.

The standards listed on these page are overall DOD medical standards. Each of the military service, However,have the authority to waive these standards.Should they choose to do so. If an applicant is disqualified by MEPS,base on the above standards, the MEPS medical doctor makes a recommendation as to whether or not a waiver should be considered. The Doctor bases
this recommendation on the folling criteria, using his/her professional medical judgement;

[1]. is the condition progressive?
[2]. is the condition subject to aggravation by military service?
[3]. will the condition preclude satisfactory completion of prescribed training and subsequent military duty?
[4]. will the condition constitute an undue hazard to the examine or to others, particularly under Combat Conditions????.

If a waiver is required, it is initiated and processed by the service you are trying to join, not the MEPS. whether or not waiver will be approed, and how long it takes for approval/disapproval varies greatly. Each and every waiver is considered individually.
