    02xx??

This is for any Marines in the 0200 Intel area.

Right now my MOS is 1361, engineer assistant, and I've been contimplating switching to an Intel position, and was wondering what its like, schooling wise, job duties, and anything else you can think of. My scores were all high on the ASVAB, and my recruiter told me that I could go that route if I wanted to. Also, I plan on doing the PLC program eventually, would have an 0200 MOS under my belt be a better qualification than an engineering/construction one?

    Thanks for any help

An Intel MOS will not help you get selected by a PLC selection board. However, being a prior service candidate does help. If you're thinking of doing PLC, a good route would be to enlist as a reservist and go to college at the same time.

Also, your pullups are strong, but 68 crunches and 12:30 mile and a half are dogcrap. (sorry to be blunt)

A PLC selection board will not touch you with your crunches and your run time. You need to bring it up.

    Well actually....

I am enlisted as a reservist, and I started my first semester of college last thursday.

I know my run and crunches is weak. My run has come down in time, I just haven't officially timed it to know how much. I'm guessin about 11:30 judging by my split times, and I'm workin on my crunches, I have a six pack, but I dont have enough endurance.

    Keep running.

    your pullups is big time

getting you 3 mile time down to 22:30 or so and getting 85+ crunches...SHOULD get you selected

I got go for 100 crunches and under 22 min to be safe.

That should definitely get you selected considering your pullups are strong and assuming you have a half decent college GPA and no NJPs and such.

I'm a former 0231. What would you like to know? It's an extremely challenging MOS once you hit the FMF. Demanding mentally. Lots of fun, sure. But not all can 'hack' it.

I'm so interested in becoming 0231, intel specialist. I'm planning on lat moving, but i don't know what to expect in the intel field. can you please provide me with a quick summary? Thanks.

    yeah, basically what johnson said,

    a description of it.

what was schooling like? how long? where? what are the guys like? (like the big partiers, or laid back or what not)

what do you do? is it like intel of locating the enemy, I really have no clue about the field so anything you say will be very helpful

Basically, the "neat" stuff you will do cant' be discussed due to OPSEC requirements.

This is what I can tell you:

You will analyize raw data and form it into a useable product for the Commander and whomever else needs it.

You will build lots of briefing slides using power point.

Intel Marines are some of the more intelligent, but "squirrelly" Marines there are. They are usually a diverse and interesting group, like any set of Marines, there are partiers and there are bookworms, but they are all Marines.

School is (or was) located at NMCI in Dam Neck, Virginia.
Not sure how long it is nowadays, when I went it was about 3 months.

Some things you WON'T do and some hints:

    1. You'll be a fresh fish/FNG, therefore, don't expect to be standing up in front of the General or the President telling him about inbound nukes or the whereabouts of BinLaden on your first day. That only happens in the movies.

    2. Improve your writing skills. Improve your researching skills. Improve your reading skills. Because if you don't, you'll be handing out maps or on permanant "field day the head" duty. Your work product will be reviewed COUNTLESS times by various individuals. It better be correct.

    3. Learn to keep your mouth shut. You will see things and hear things you can't tell anyone, not Mom, best bud, girlfriend/boyfriend, etc., about, EVER. If you like to gossip or have a big mouth, find another line of work. Violating these rules will land you in jail.

    4. You will NOT be James Bond, the Bourne Project, The Rock, Jack Ryan, or a trained 'assassin for the gummint on a sooper secret mission'. Yes, you'll get to see and do cool things. You won't be able to tell anyone you did them, not even 50 years from now in a bar. Those who claim to have done all this crap are usually the people who failed out of Recruit Training for the Air Force for "stress".

    5. Plan on deployments. The field is short. You won't regret it.

    6. 90 percent of what Intel does is office related. In the field, the other 10 percent is mostly setting up the office.

    7. Yes, one day you too will get to brief the General, the Colonel, and other high rankers. Make sure your fly is closed.
