I ate c-rats when I first got in the corps, I liked them, pound cake beef and rocks. Good s**t.

C-Rats were changed out in the late 70's early eighties. I'm an abberration (sp). I liked the rest of it, but I didn't like that damn cake! LOL. I thought it was nasty! I usually ate it, though. Better than goin' hungry! LOL.

I do remember the Corps doin' those taste tests of the MREs. Tasted better, overall, butsomehow it just wasn't the same!Musta gone to the MREs in the early eighties. I remember them bein' around, but they were still gettin' rid of the C-RATs, too. For awhile there, sometimes ya didn't know fer sure which ones you were gonna get!

The c-rats seemed to stay with you longer then MRE's.

Ate both, would trade a bag of MRE's for c-rats any day.

But then, a fine glass of wine, ham and eggs and pound cake are hard to beat.

Ya right. Well, two out of three isn't bad. LOL

You just cant beat the real C-Rats, the older ones with the cigs are the best, In 1987, I gave up smoking for 3 years, no problems, went camping, and as usual, had a box of C-Rats for old times sake, these were packed in 1944, me not wanting to waste anything, opened the 4pack of Pall Mall straights, lit it up, and got the biggest rush of my life, I finished the next 3 in no time, and then drove 30 miles and bought a carton of Pall Malls, and been smoking again ever since. And yes the Ham and Limas are still my favorite meal, dont care what anyone says. Bones thanks for that site, Ive bookmarked it for future viewing too.

Was kind of partial to the Chocolate Nut roll myself. Nobody wanted it, so I could trade EASY for plenty. Read the can... Was packed in Nashville, so kind of reminded me of home.

Wow,what a topic this is !! Spent 382 days in S.E. Asia.Had a hot meal 39 times. The rest of the chow was C-rats. Did have some long range rats(Army stuff I believe) when on long ReCon,but took to much water to work out.Went back to selective C-rats for the long haul.Can't beat them for day in,day out calories.Got to agree with the remark on the 4-pak Pall Malls.Had many that were wet and dried several times.Talk about a head rush..Maybe the newer type MRE's are better than the late 80's stuff,don't know.Give me C's any day.

Did you folks see Ollie North in the Iraqi desert
talking about the comparison of MRE's and C-Rats? Talking about Turkey Loaf " turkey Beaks , turkey feet..." .
In Vietnam I lived on Cs for many months. As long as we had Tabasco sauce we could handle them . I personally detested Chopped Eggs and Ham , however they could be choked down if liberally smeared with tinned jam.
