So sorry about this.

If the MP school is at an Army Base, are Marines being taught by Army Instructors or do they just share the school.

I dont know if that made sense but
do Marines get yelled at like they do in Boot camp by Marines or Army Personel and are Marines pretty much on there own at that particular MOS school?

and for the mos MOS 5831, Correctional Specialist
it says thatCorrectional specialists guard and provide 24 hour supervision of the daily activities of confined and restrained personnel at Naval Brigs and Correctional Custody Units to prevent disturbances and escapes.

does that mean i cant goto Iraq?becasue the whole reason i want to join the Marine Corps is too get combat expierence and goto Iraq and fight with best friend who is a radio operator(i'm not even sure if thats possible to be in the same unit)

With one of you being a radio operator and the other being in corrections, you can be confident that you're not going to the same unit.

But, of course you can be sent to Iraq. MPs are everywhere, and the corrections people--- well, who do you think is watching the terrorists that we catch- the tooth fairy?

Best guess, most of the training will come from Army people. I went to an Army school once with four other Marines. Every instructor was Army or a civilian.

You will have supervison from Marines for certain. Marines fresh from MCT will not be left out on their own at a school, especially an Army school. There is a liaison unit there and you can bet the Marine liaison NCOs will PT you (because Army PT won't keep you to Marine standards) and likely stay with you all day. They may teach a class or two as a course instructor.

The Marines in my Army-taught school were all sergeants so we were not baby-sat. We did have to pop in and visit the liaison officer weekly, and he got periodic reports from the school staff on us. As NCOs, we were expected to keep ourselves to Marine PT standards.

Yeah, you might get yelled at, but not like boot camp. The Army instructors might yell at you and not so much at the soldiers. Marines don't whine and cry when an NCO raises their voice at them.

Hell, I got yelled at in a civilian police academy, and I yelled when I taught there too. Yelling doesn't hurt. A punch in the suck hurts, but not yelling.

I know there is a Marine liason at the arty school at Ft. Sill that is like a Platoon Sgt. for the Marines in school. I am sure it works the same way there.

The arty schools for Marines are taught by Marines. We were self contained within the Army base.

The fun part is that we shared a chow hall with the army recruits. It was fun walking tall past those boot pukes.

Summer of 1987, watched Full Metal Jacket with 10 other Marines in Lawton, surrounded by hundreds of army doggies. Everything was like an inside joke to us. ; )

I will take your word for that, never been there. I just know a former recruiter that was reassigned to be a liason there until his contract expired- and that is how it was explained to me. Then again, he is in the Navy now, so I should consider the source I suppose.

I like the Marines teaching it much better though. And I may have only been 12 in 1987, but i really wish I could have seen you all sitting there with all the doggies watching you.

OMG, E4B, the scene when Gunny saw the unlocked footlocker and pulled out the donut....

We were gasping "OH, SH!T" and the doggies just looked at us like "what? what's the big deal?"

There is no way to know. Every Marine is a rifleman, and that does mean that you could find yourself out on a patrol. But, it would not be a normal part of your job. If you're looking for trigger time and that's all you're wanting, be a grunt.

Please forgive me but is a grunt just infantary?
becasue i would like to be an MP
could i get trigger time as an MP?

or is that another one of the unknowns?

You know, Mike. If you're already in college, you should stay focused on an officer's career.

Many of us, including E4B and myself, would not recommend enlisting if you have your degree or are close to getting it.

I have two years left.
May I ask why you would not reccomend going the route of an officer?

You misunderstood. He is saying you should be an officer if you're close to your degree. It isn't that way for everyone. I would much rather be an NCO than an officer, but that is because of the actual job I had and the different roles of officers and enlisted in communications jobs.

You will make a ton more money as an officer, you will have a better life, you will be given more responsibility, and you will be an Officer of Marines. There are few people more respected in the world. If you're close to a degree, get it and become an officer.

I'm really thinking about becoming an officer.
I am talking to a few other people and a lot of them are giving the same advice.
Hopefully everyone isn't wrong about it..lol
