He sure could Dave. I think this was the cover photo on Life magazine the week after the intial Marine landing in Nam in 1965. I seem to remember some years ago that they were trying to identify and find out what happened to him. When I look at the photo I do see us forty years ago.

Corporal Bishop
by Del Abe Jones
A hero to all who knew him
He loved all, but Family the best
He excelled in everything he did
Until he passed this final test.
He gave all for his Country
A true Patriot, that's true
With three tours of duty
Trying to do all he could do.
He'd served as a Scout Sniper
And been out on many patrols
But was sitting at a desk
When he joined his comrade's souls.
Ironically, should have been safe
But evidently, was his time
But, the loss of another great one
Just, really seems a crime.
Birdie and (late) Gray are his parents
He was the baby of six born
Married Emma Katherine last year
And now, each of them will mourn.
And his loss touches each of us
Whether we knew him or not
Another casualty of this war
A loss of the best we've got.
He leaves a legacy behind
Of accomplishments galore
Good deeds to friends and family
Now, who could ask for more?
Well, all of us could ask
Although it will never be
But, he left his mark on this Earth
And will dwell Up There for eternity.
A final Salute with Honors
As he is sadly, laid to rest
Once a Marine, always one
Who has passed, his final test.
Rest in peace, Corporal.

"Earn This"
In memory of Cpl James L Moore
Written by: Anonymous
His picture talks to me
I have never met him but I feel as if I have always known him
He represents everything that is good and unselfish
He has the hint of a smile on his face
I can feel the strength and confident conviction in his eyes
There is a calm way about him that makes me feel at ease
Everything is going to be OK he says
I read that he volunteered after the towers fell
Because he wanted to make a difference
I know that I had a good day today because he and others like him
Have walked quietly into the storm and kept the wolves at bay
It is as if we have made a silent bargain…. a promise
He has made the ultimate sacrifice
So I can live more days like today
I ask myself if I am keeping my part?
Am I earning this?
His picture talks to me
It makes me ask questions
Can I be a better person?
Am I using this gift of being alive to make a difference?
When others have paid the price for my protection and safety
I realize I am here because others are not.
I eat at the table because others gave up their seat
I keep his picture where I can see it every day
To remind me of him and the others
Who paid for my freedom?
And to remind myself
Everyday
I must Earn This!

Poolee Commitment
by Author Unknown
Yes I am joining the Marine Corps
Yes I am requesting my MOS to be Infantry
Yes I will be trained to fight to kill to protect freedom and democracy
Yes I want to be at the FRONT!
I will make the Corps my house where I will guard it from all evil
My fellow Marines will be my family, and I will risk my life to save theirs
My Strength, My Honor, My Pride, My Courage, My Commitment, My Desire will be my shield against the enemy...
I will fight for the Red, White and Blue and everything it stands for...
The Same Red that represents the BLOOD of all Warriors that fought this country's battles
The Same White which represents PEACE
The Same BLUE which represents our Blue sky where we look up to dream away, to wonder, to imagine, to look for hope...
Yes I am joining the Marine Corps

The Marines
by Blonnie Cason
The Marine are men who jump to fight, trying to protect America's pride.
They jump from planes and sore in the sky, like an eagle flying high.
They keep America from all harm, they always win cause they're always armed.
They come right away when called to fight, sometimes in the dead of night.
They wear black and green so they're never seen. America is nice and terrorists are mean,
MARINES fight to keep our country clean so terrorist stand clear of the UNITED STATES MARINES!!!!!!

Our Fight For You
by Adam Billings
We fight for what many won't
Our bodies battle like many don't
We save lives in the field
Knowing that we may be killed
Freedom is saved by what we do
You don't understand that it's all for you
We take the punishment to help the others
Our mission is to save our brothers
Mothers at home worry about us every day
Just so you can have everything your way
Some people at home put us down and call us names
While miles away we fight for freedom so that our nation can reign
We see the blood of our brothers
But we keep on fighting for all the others
We never give up and we always try
When banded together we will never die
Know this peace lovers,
war haters,
sad mothers,
and mob creators
We fight the war for you as well
We take the bullets in our chests and go through all the hell
We are the Marines
We battle day to day
No Matter how much pain we take
Our freedom is what we save
We take our guns, and we take our lives and put them on the line
We knew the suffering we would go through before we ever signed
Deep inside we buried our loved ones and our memories
Cause we knew that our duty was not for us, but to set You free
So when your lying in bed tonight thinking about your family
Remember all of us to
The people who go out everyday
and fight the war for you
We Are Marines
We always fight for you
Remember our sacrifices
As you look up at the red, white and blue

For My Son Who Joined The Corps
by Scott Barbour
When my son joined the Marine Corps,
It was such a proud day.
He went from a boy to a man,
The old fashioned Marine Corps way.
We stood as he marched by the stand,
A tear in every eye.
He looked straight ahead and never swayed,
As his father looked toward the sky.
His father asked the Lord above,
To protect his son, the teen.
The Lord told his proud father,
Yes, I'll protect your Marine.
The Marine Corps is a way of life,
Not just a weekend game.
He joined to serve his country,
Not for money, girls or fame.
Honor, Courage and Commitment,
These aren't just words to say.
They are the Marine Core values,
That the Marines live every day.
As my son prepares to leave the States,
To go to a distant shore,
Our family will keep praying,

10-21-07, 07:51 PM #373This Life
by Cpl Figueroa USMC
This is the life that he has chosen.
Do I choose to be a part of it?
I must. It is my duty as his mother
To always send my love and care
No matter where he is needed.
Overseas, in the deserts, over the fifty states,
No matter where, he needs to be, I will be as well.
His life is mine and that will never cease.
That will never change.
If I want nothing to do with this path he has chosen
Then I chose not to have a part in my son's life
And God forbid I lose my son,
And I was not there for him, in this life,
Than I was no mother to him.
His life is my life. And that will never change.
I will always be his mother.
He will always be my son.
Always faithful, Semper Fi

Recipe For A Marine
by Jahhead88
1 cup desire to serve their country.
1 cup of heart,
1 cup of persistence
1 cup of determination
Sift thoroughly to make sure there are no can'ts.
Add 1 cup of focus and desire to achieve a goal
Add 1 cup of physical prowess
Add 1 cup of aggression and 1 cup of compassion measured evenly
Add 4 cups hard corps drill instructors. *
* Parris Island or San Diego optional
Have drill instructors take ingredients, knead briskly. Stretch, mold and shape over and over again. Put in 1000% effort for when these ingredients fall apart.
Add 5 cups but chewings
1 -4 cups quarterdeck as needed
6 cups drilling
4-6 cups class work
1 cup crucible divided into three day portions.
1 cup gas chamber
1 cup infiltration course
4-5 cups long marches.
If needed give 1-2 cups extra heart by personal example.
Add in 1 cup confidence, with 1 cup humility.
Add in 1 cup honor
Add 1 cup courage with stories of Marines of old.
Add 3 cups commitment.
Use additional heating.
Trim off uneven edges.
After 11 weeks, your Marine should be ready.
For additional refinement add MCT training at either Camp Pendleton or Camp Lejeune.
Voila, there you have it; the recipe for a Marine.
Additional refining may be done as needed in Iraq or Afganistan

For A Special Marine
by a proud Marine Mom
Though we'll be miles and miles apart
Always know that you are in my Heart
Every single day you'll be in my prayers
I will think of you always and everywhere
There are only a few of the strong, proud and brave
Who will fight for our freedom the American way
Your mission is grand, and of you I am so proud
Being a Marine earns you the respect of all those around
There will be many tough times, this I know
But of who you are don't ever let go
You've pulled yourself up and turned your life around
Your entire family is so very, very proud
I Love you so much and want for you only the best
So keep your standards high and never settle for less
I love your Smile, your heart and your charm
May God keep you always safe from harm
So I'll tie a yellow ribbon around the tree
And wait for the day you come safely home to me.
