The question is;
How do you become the most respected Marine?
There several things some are in my signature and I would add these;
"To be HONORABLE, one must live with HONOR"
We must be faithful to our Country,
to our Corps, and to each other.
"The Marine Corps does not build character, it reveals it"
Respect and Honor go hand in hand.
The other one's have no need for an explanation.
The last one really explains how to become the most "RESPECTED" Marine.
I don't know if it was fate or I was just fortunated, to have served under the Command of two Marine Officers, one was a Medal of Honor recipent when I was in the battalion that he commanded.
The other was to become a Medal of Honor recipent in Vietnam, trying to save his radioman.
Later I met two enlisted Marines, both recipents of the Medal of Honor.
One I had served with in 1st Recon, the other one, I met on the web first, than in person at MCRD Parris Island.
Their names;
Lt. Colonel Archie Van Winkle USMC
1st. Lt. Frank Stanley Reasoner USMC
Staff Sergeant Jimmie Howard USMC
PFC Raymond "Mike" Clausen Jr. USMC.
Look up their citations and you will see some very well respected Marines.
Mike, would E-Mail me and tells that day in 1970 had been an insanity.
Once maybe, but to do it six times, was something more than an insanity.
Many Marines are alive because of Mike insanity.
Did he do all he did because he wanted to be the
MOST RESPECTED" Marine?
NO!
Because of this;
"The Marine Corps does not build character, it reveals it"...
Think about that for a moment and you will see the path on how to become the most respect Marine!
PS
You web name reveals more about you than you really want.
And in boot camp, drawing attention to one-self might be more than what you want.
My grammer isn't the best in the world, but we try our best.

I'd say it would take bearing, courage, decisiveness, dependability, endurance, enthusiasm, initiative, integrity, judgement, justice, knowledge, loyalty, tact, and unselfishness.
Master all those, and I'd say you would probably be one hell of a Marine.

The maggot had a really bad rest of the day and ended up getting recycled.

i think your best option would be to tell your senior drill instructor that you want to be the best you can be and that for a PT stud like yourself, that you dont need to participate in the easy little runs while at bootcamp
oh and plz send us a post card from there letting us know how you are doing

PFTstud,
To become respected by everyone is nearly impossible. Someone will always loathe you and be jealous of you. Think of who you regard in the hightest respect. Maybe your mother and maybe one of your high school teachers may fit the bill. It may be the drill instructors you encounter in recruit training. I see personally a pattern among individuals like these: leadership, discipline, duty, and countless other characteristics. I've seen and read about many accounts of Marines thanking their drill instructors for making them the Marine they have become. Also the "hard-asses," so to speak, can influence their surrounding people immensely. Not hard-ass as wise-ass, but discipline-wise. In fact, here is a link of a story that should help: http://www.grose.us/motivate/shane.html
