    Breathing

Has anyone seen a person successfully completely recruit training with slight breathing issues? Any testimonials? I'm thinking about it and I don't have breathing problems that bad at all. I don't have exercise induced asthma or anything and I only ever get a slight cough when exposed to allergens, no tight breathing or any thing if so, then VERY little. If i were to get an allergy attack(which again, not so bad), do you think I would get yelled at for coughing during exercises?

You'll get yelled at for everything.

Sounds to me like you're good to go. Everyone has allergies and if you don't have asthma you're okay. Go for it.

At ITS San Onafre 64 area I believe in 1985 we had a certian Ssgt.Ford.
We also had the coughing Heanna Pvt Renfro( who had what we believed was asthma) ,
who started hacking and weezing while do the quater deck and the more he hacked the more Ssgt. Ford made everyone do foot locker drills from the 3rd floor squad bay and didnt stop until Renfro passed out which we were all very grateful.
So if you got asthma and with mild exercise you dont have a problem , the stuff they will do to you at boot and even worse at AIT it will bring any affliction you have out into the open trust me .

I think your best advice would be to speak to a recruiter and have the docs at MEPS check you out to make sure that there are no medical conditions that you give you problems.

A lot of us have seen a lot of stupid people do a lot of stupid s__t just trying to get out of whatever...............a DI can't tell if you're just being wimpy or there is really something wrong.

Again, if this is a problem, TALK TO A RECRUITER AND A DOCTOR!

Why are you so worried about getting yelled at? You do realize that what you are talking about is "bootcamp" right? Of course you're gonna get yelled at if you cough or clear your throat, but you're gonna be getting yelled at every second of every day anyways.

Besides the yelling issue, get checked out by a doctor. Last year a guy in my FAST Co. platoon went into a seizure after completing the gas chamber, and later got kicked out of the Marines for it. You don't wanna go with a medical condition especially a respiratory one, that's gonna cause you to have serious problems in the gas chamber or intense physical excersice. Re

Personally I don't think he's worrying about a medical condition. He's worried about standing out. Clearing your throat isn't a medical condition, it's something that naturally happens. I really can't understand what you're so worried about, When I went to MCRD did I go "You know, if I breathe heavily during physical activity, will I not make it?" or "If I feel sore after PT is that bad?" There's a difference between what SHOULD happen (i.e. fatigue and soreness during and after heavy PT) and what SHOULDN'T (i.e. passing out, LACK of breathing, etc.)

Don't be worried about what will happen, and they probably will jump on you for clearing your throat, but trust me, there are far worse things they can get on you about.

But listen to the Marines here. If you're really worried, go to a doctor. I'm just still totally unclear because you mentioned it's nothing medical. Don't worry man, even PT studs have human limitation. Breathing heavy or having to clear your throat doesn't make you the balck sheep.

    agreed

When Mr DI says lock your body maggot !! and you decide to let out a cough well you can stand by to be thrashed lol. (let the games begin)
If its medical get it checked out before you go, boot camp is the wrong place to be if you have medical problems, DI's are not the sensitive nuturing types they will try to break you regardless of how you feel.
#1 you'll be recycled which would suck cause your going to want to graduate with your series .
    # 2 you'll get a med discharged(that will suck to because you might end up going into the air force or worse the army).
Get checked out by your family doctor if you have any doubts what so ever.

hey, drill instructors expect everyone in bootcamp to be physically capable of finishing bootcamp. if you have any issues, ask your recruiter if you are even eligible to begin training, i remember this recruit i was with lied about his asthma and got kicked out of training when he suffered an attack during the initial pft, so get that taken cared of before you go.

I'm hoping to maybe enlist or do OCS if I go to college.I have mild athsma (which rarely shows itself at all-even when doing P.T.) but I have allergies. Now these allergies are pretty bad in summer, but the can be sorted out easily every day by one pill in the morning. I know I'd have to check it out with a recruiter, but does anyone know offhand if one pill every morning would be an issue? Thanks
    Alex

I thought about enlisting along with my fiancee, but the recruiter asked me if I had asthma, I said yes. It didn't matter how bad it was, or if it was insignificant or if it wasn't exercise induced. I have it, so that was the end of that.

Can I get a confirmation on this from anyone? It's just that I have become obsessed with joining the Marine Corps and if this is true, then my life's plan has just been torn to shreds. Just to mention (it probably wont make a difference) that I'm 17 and as I grow older, the asthma dissipates. i.e. over the years, I have become much less prone to even the slightest symptoms and my doctor thinks I may grow out of it. However, if I don't grow out of it are we 100% sure that asthma (however minor) will hands-down prevent me from being a Marine?

I CANNOT ACCEPT SOMETHING LIKE ALMOST NON-EXISTENT ASTHMA TO PREVENT ME FROM JOINING THE CORPS!

Like the others have said earlier, GO SEE A DOCTOR You probably don't have asthma anymore! You probably just get symptoms of it every now and then, and that's normal for most people. Seriously, I would definately go get a referral for an asthma/allergy specialist to get tested again. If you can get it cleared, you're going to be fine. I don't want to discourage you, or make you upset, I'm just saying, I always wanted to enlist, but I couldn't, not in the Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard, Army, or the Marines. Don't get upset until you find out exactly what you need to find out. Nice motivation though!
