A Warriors Grief ~ A poem of War
After viewing MillRat's post this morning
Return Our Warriors
He seems to always get me to thinking
I wrote this poem, I posted it first under his thread, but decided both need to stand alone in their own thread.

A Warriors Grief
By Cook Barela
January 19, 2005
Since the sun came up this morning
I’ve been awake, and now the shadows
Of darkness are at my door, screaming
For a fight once more
Another day and another night
To resume the fight
Forever more
I’ve killed men with these hands of mine
Held their lives in the twilight of life
Fighting with the morning sun at noon and at night
It’s all the same for a profession such as mine
To fight for my brothers life and freedom
Is what I live for
To share my love for peace
Can only be found
when I’ve fired the last round in war
For me there is no time
No place to rest under the sun
My life’s a dream of the horrors of war
There will be peace and when I can fight no more
I will search the world over for the enemy of love, liberty and peace
And follow to slay them at hell’s back door
Till there is war no more
That is my lot in life
What gives liberty and sets things right
It will all start again with the morning sun
While bullets and rockets will fill the night
For as long as the sun comes up and the stars shine at night
I’ll be there to watch and fight
For the joys of freedom found at your side
What a price we pay that demands
The souls of those that fight in war
That you may enjoy Liberty in our shores
So I’ll saddle up once more, with the morning sun
And empty my chamber to even the score
And as for tomorrows dreams tonight
Share them with others
For a warrior dreams is
The freedom I bring
with the weapons of war
