I just talked to my recruiter and he said it shouldn't be a problem, and that he would get back to me and confirm it.

I understand from this post that you go to Boot Camp, but do you also go to MCT?
What rank do you end up being? Are you guys all officers or..?
How long is your MOS school?

I had to perform an audition for a SSgt that recruits people specifically for the bands. I had to prepare a solo, play scales, and sightread a lot of music. Your audition is given a numerical score on a 4.0 scale. I think a 2.7 qualifies you for acceptance into the Marine Corps band program (12 bands stationed around the country). A 2.85 or higher qualifies you for the Drum and Bugle corps (there is only one, The Commandant's Own in Washington) if there are any openings. Luckily for me, when I auditioned there were 2 openings for Baritone Bugle, the horn I can play.
Yes, I will go to boot camp at PI, and then MCT.
The Band program recruits will go to 6 months of training at the Armed Forces School of Music as their MOS school.
The Drum and Bugle Corps doesn't have MOS training, you just go right into the group and hit the ground running. I assume this is because there are only 65 people out of the whole Corps in this group, so they don't have a seperate MOS school to train so few people.
We go through the ranks like all other enlisted Marines, or at least that's what it looks like. I believe the only officer is a Major that runs the whole group.
I will be stationed at Marine Barracks in Washington DC, along with the Marine Band (President's Own) and the Silent Drill Platoon.
Hope this helps.

Txphil21,
Thank you very much for the information. I go to Washington, D.C. fairly often so hopefully I will get to see you perform someday! And congrats! Not that it was anything other than skill, but congrats for making it anyway!
Thanks again!

No problem, I can't wait to get into the corps. I've been so close to joining the Marines on several different occasions, and now I'm finally doing it. Be sure to cheer loud for me if you ever see the drum and bugle corps!
