A recruiter should be able to pull up all this info for you. You can be pretty far from a reserve unit, but just be mindful that the commute can get old. I've known people with 5+ hour commutes. If you don't have reliable transportation that can make this even more of a nightmare.

I live in Virginia and my recruiter said the nearest Infanty Reserve Unit is all the way in New Orleans, so he isn't very reliable or I probably misinterpreted him. Can anyone confirm that Camp Lejeune in North Carolina has Infantry Reserve Units?

I know there are closer units, not sure exactly where. If you are willing and able to move just to be a reservist, why not go active duty?

I just like the idea I having more than 2.5 days a month to do what I want as a civilian, opposed to almost a full month, but I'm still considering it. Can I go 4 years active duty, 4 years in the reserve, or something like that?

You can go 4 active and then join the reserves afterwards if you want. If you don't have a great civilian career going for you, aren't in school, etc, I don't think you will find the reserves all that satisfying.
