I have been searching extensively under Donald Robert Schenker, or Shenker. I am not too sure I trust my mother with the middle and last name. I know that the first name is accurate. Even the story she gave me does not make sense.

Here is the back story.
My aunt at that time was 8 years old, she remembers my mother dating this guy Don while Ron was in Vietnam. My mother was friends with alot of Marines in Camp Pendleton during that time, her not being one. That is when she said my mother got pregnant with me. My aunt then moved back up north with other family. Later Ron came back from Vietnam, then they married in San Diego in mid November of '68. Then Ron got stationed in 29 Palms where I was born on the base in late January of '69 a couple months later. Puts Ron on the birth certificate as my father.
All throughout the years, I found out, that everybody knew Ron was not my biological father. They were told that Don(my biological father) died in Vietnam, and to not let me know. My aunt told me right around the time I joined this group.
When I confronted my mother she knew that I was given the first name and said that his middle and last names were Robert Shenker.
She said he was from New York. She said that a few years after I was born she got a phone call from somebody that Don had died in Vietnam. She seemed pretty ticked off that I found out. I can't get anymore information out of her than that.

I ran that name through the search tool for the Vietnam Memorial at
http://www.vvmf.org/Wall-of-Faces/ <---------<<< checked there also ?
and didn't find anything, but you could check there for different spellings and variations.
Good luck with your search though, and keep posting what you find. Eventually someone here may help you find the connection you need.

I also found out that she worked with her friend Sharon in the 22 area snack bar, and also my mother (before she dated Don or maybe around the same time) dated a guy named David Albert Parker. So maybe it might help find out Don. I looked up David Albert Parker and he died in Vietnam in February of '69.

I really do not think that the middle and last name are real. I have looked up all of the leads for the full name Donald Robert Schenker and other variations, and made a lot of phone calls with no results. But I know Don for sure. I understand he was a very young guy (like most of them) and my aunt said that their were a few times when they were drinking they would make little bombs with soda cans outside. Somebody told my that was typical of rifleman. I know it was just some stress relief before being sent out.

I have recently done a DNA match and am pretty sure that the name Donald Robert Schenk Jr. would be the one I am looking for.

Here's a link to that name exactly of a man that died in 2011. He was born in 46 so that would match, the info was submitted by the VA which would also match. Time to talk with dear old Mom again.

It was this Donald Robert Shenk Jr. I did an Ancestry dna thing and ultimately I found out that this was him. The family told me a little bit, but if anybody knew him please let me know. I know he went to Vietnam for about 3 years or so before he returned to Camp Pendleton in mid 1968. I do not know the company or battalion he was in. He was a Corporal I know.
