Egbert M. (Ed) Brady of Vineland, NJ passed away on March 26, 2015 at Inspira Medical Center, Vineland, NJ. Ed was born in Kirkwood, Missouri. Being a career military man, Ed lived throughout the United States and overseas. After graduating high school, Ed attended the University of Illinois as a pre-med student. While a sophomore at the University he was drafted into the Marine Corps. At this time, segregation was the norm throughout the Country. In 1942 Ed graduated from "Boot Camp" at Montford Point, North Carolina becoming one of the first African American Marines in the Country. He served his Country and Corps with pride and distinction until his retirement in 1971. Ed received the presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Citation, Navy, Marne Corps Medal, America Theatre WWII Victor Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation. He engaged in active combat at Guadalcanal, Pelelieu, Okinawa, Korea, and Vietnam where he served three tours, 1963, 196, and 1969. Jun 27 2012, Ed received the United States Congressional Gold Medal for his service as a Montford Point Marine. Ed was the oldest member of Semper Marine Detachment Marine Corps League an served as Judge Advocate and Past Detachment Commandant.
