0311 vs 0351

Is the only difference that with 0351 you lug around a rocket launcher on patrol? Or are they completely different from 0311?

You'll get to blow sh*t up in the schoolhouse. You'll be assigned to a weapons platoon in the fleet. You'll carry extra sh*t on humps; how your unit employs you as it relates to your MOS is beyond me. Every infantry Marine goes through the 0311 course before they precede to their specific MOS training.

Once you're in the fleet most 51's, 52's, and even 31's with a Weapons Co will roll around mounted(on a truck) everywhere. If you're with a Weapons Plt or section within a regular line company then you'll be humping $hit around with the 11's.

More recently in Afhganistan there hasn't been a real need for the heavy weapons guys so they get augmented into either mounted infantry for security purposes or get rolled into a line/rifleman company for regular patrols. I rolled with a heavy weapons section in country...the got turned into a security element for a route clearance platoon...ended up being a small convoy of like 10 trucks with a 240, .50 cal, or MK-19
