2 things...
If there is not an infantry local to you then you are not able to be a part of that unit. You are required to contract to the most local unit, or choose from multiple if they are equal distance.
I can't give you pros and cons of Nat. Guard infantry vs. Marine Corps infantry, I don't think anyone here is able to as none of us are infantry and no one here is Nat. Guard...I will say this though, Nat. Gaurd infantrymen get to do some very cool training that Marines don't

USMC infantry: fulltime warriors (well, fulltime advisors, trainers, and global humanitarian relief suppliers anyway). Possible assignments to the Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team (FAST). Possible rotating deployments to Darwin, Australia, Okinawa, Japan, Spain, and other exotic locales. Possible assignment to embassy duty with the Department of State. Possible assignment to the silent drill team in Washington DC and the White House. Possibly stationed in Hawaii. Possibly assigned to a Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) floating around in the ocean aboard Navy amphibious ships (waiting for something to happen). Predeployment training in the Mojave desert or cold weather training in Washington state; amphibious training on both coasts.
Army NG infantry: weekend warriors, local disaster relief, local riot control, border patrol as needed in Texas
