That's a lot of variety. All I had was 2571 (now called 2621), plus a secondary MOS for one year, that I forgot about, of Supply (At Lejeune), and that was it for 4 years. But that job, 2571, which was handed to me, as we had no input into what MOS we would get, was the best job I ever had, by far, including my present one. This is why I mention to folks here that perhaps an MOS you think you'd hate, you might end up liking it.....interesting thread.

Finally got my professor's MOSs, He thought it would be a good idea to contribute with his fellow Marine brothers and sisters... Here they are:

    Service Years-1984-2005

    7509-Pilot VMA, AV-8B Qualified 84-91
Became an instructor pilot from 91-93 i think...from what he told me. He told me he wanted to explore more options as a Marine, so he left flying with about a good 2000 hours, and then told me from there he went to DLI(Defense Language Institute) and received his basic language training there and then from there he said he went to Goodfellow AFB.

In the end he became a linguist with the MOS
    2712-Arabic(Modern Standard) from 94-01
Deployed with different units, he didn't really elaborate on which ones and then he was assigned
0180 Adjutant to some general upon retiring as an LTC.

He says the only reason why he retired was because he was married and life kind of started telling him it was time to move on with life. But he never ever forgets his Marine Corps roots,

He also wanted me to wish everyone here a Semper Fi!

Tell him Semper Fi back to him. Keep this thread going, maybe more will respond. With some, it's like pulling teeth, they don't want to give up that supersecret MOS info. LOL

Lol @USMC2571, I told him the Semper Fi from you guys, He says thanks, and yeah i really hope this thread continues, and hope people continue contributing. I can't thank you guys enough for all the replies. so far my survey is going well...Please do continue as this thread is helping many...I was showing a friend of mine this thread because he was looking into the Marines but didn't know what he wanted to do. showing him this thread has now helped him build a basic foundation of what he wants to do in the Corps...I know they're many others out there just like him, and i think this thread will benefit aspiring Marines in many ways...Thanks again.

Now and again, come back and "bump" this thread with a comment or it will sink into oblivion very soon.

    Influential Story ALERT!

Met a former fighter pilot at work .He is a "Mustang" Marine, so he started enlisted and went to officer. He grew up in a very bad neighborhood, dropped out of High school when he was 16, and decided that school wasn't for him. He soon realized life was pretty impossible without an education and some foundation. He then got his GED and enlisted into the Marine Corps in 1991 at 17. From there he worked as a (6199) Marine Gunner aboard a UH-1N Huey until about 1994. Soon he realized he needed some sort of College education for his future and felt like aviation had always been a part of him. From then he knew he wanted to be a Marine pilot. He attended Columbia University and was commissioned an officer. He went to Naval Flight school, barely making the cutoff age and went on to fly with the Marine Corps for 11 years on the F-18 Hornet. Now he's currently a 737 pilot for Delta Airlines, and believes the Marine Corps shaped him beautifully from a boy who had nothing in his life to a man of success and achievement. I found his story very influential. I wanted to share this because i want those out there who feel that it's impossible to achieve success when you're at zero to know that there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Excellent story---and maybe it will have that "ripple effect" as it's spread around. It just may encourage some others. I too left high school after 2 years, got a GED in the Corps, joined two weeks after turning 17, and on from there. I "saw the light" at some point. like he did....good post.
