Was on I-I duty at that time. Did a casualty call for one of the Marine's family who was killed in that bombing. Since I was the I-I admin chief, went on all casualty calls with the I-I and reserve Naval chaplain. Helped the families with the insurance and pay arrears forms. Every casualty call was unique - just never knew how the NOK would react to the news. Had doors slammed in our faces a couple times. Once, the family owned/operated a restaraunt so we had to go there during business hours to deliver the news. The sister dropped her tray full of food when we walked in and ran into the kitchen where her mom was cooking.

They Came in Peace
by Sgt A.W.Brown Marine Veteran
They came in peace
To the plcae called
Beirut Lebanon
Not for fame or fortune
But to stop the killing
For they came in peace
They were young
Cocky and sure
But that is ok
After all
They came in peace
Then on Sunday
October 23th at 6:22
While most where
Still asleep
A yellow truck came
Not caring that
They came in peace
The driver drove
Through the fence
And into the lobby
killing 241 Marines
Sailors and soldiers
Because they came in Peace
Some say the died
For nothing but
They are wrong
They died for
something
They died for Peace

Well said Sgt. Brown.
RIP, brothers. I went in the year after Beirut, and will never forget.
We will never forget.
