    Questions about Recon Marines.

I have been doing lot of searching lately about the Marines Recon and what they do so I am letting you Marines know I did lot of searching, but want a few second opinions and answers for some questions. (1 Unlike their Division Recon brethren, whose operations are primarily within the artillery and gunfire support fan. Silence and stealth are vitalin reducing chances of compromising their position if a single round is fired, the missionis deemed to have failed..- -1 This is talking about green operations of Force Recon Marines, right ? ) (2 Although Force Recon has neverbeen part of the United States Special Operations Command, their missions slightly differentiate themselves from other United States Special Operations Forces units. Colloquially, they are specialized in all tactical areas of warfare. Force Recon will train with other Special Operations forces, such as, United States Navy SEALs, United States Army Special Forces, and United States Air Force Pararescue, in order to master all skill sets. The Marine Corps has seen fit to train versatile specialists rather than specialists in individual areas of combat....Black operations are the missions that require direct action (DA). They are the opposite of green operations missions, where the Force Recon operators basically "look for trouble". Depending on the situation and the target location, the FORECON operators usually conduct directaction missions within the artillery and naval gun support fan; these operations demonstrate"small-scale shock and awe" . -2 so this is saying Force Recon get lots of training directly from other Military areas ? Since it also shows Navy SEALs, do they get a shot at doing BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEALs ? ) (3.Each Force Reconnaissance company is basically the same, they all contain its command element and Force Recon platoons. Each company is in command by a company commander and his executive officer. Commanding Officer (CO)Executive Officer (XO)Command Element*. (S-1) Administration*. (S-2) Intelligence*. (S-3) Operations*. (S-4) Logistics*. (S-6) Communications Headquarters and Service (H&S) Platoon1st Platoon (Direct Action Platoon [DAP])2nd Platoon (DAP)3rd Platoon (Deep Recon Platoon [DRP])4th Platoon (DRP)5th Platoon ( Scout Sniper Platoon ) .... -3. Is S-1 through S-6 the companies in charge of each Platoons. I dont know how platoons and their commands work much because I did not search much about that yet. )

SoftballCatch23 : Sorry about that. I guess I was not sure about that one part so I typed that instead of Marines because I was posting in Ask a Marine so it is Marines who would see it. I guess there should be no excuse for that error of mine then. my second mistake on my second post already.

To some, it may seem that I'm being nit-picky, but it's a pet peeve of mine when poolees or Marine Friends refer to Marines as guys. We go through a lot during those 13 weeks of boot camp to EARN the title....United States Marine, and we should be called Marines, not guys.

Not sure what you are looking for here. And not sure why you cut and pasted information that can be found from these sources:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_...Reconnaissance

    http://tincangeneral.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=728

It is possible/likely that the second link I posted did the same thing you did. I know you said you did a lot of research -- then maybe you should reference your research/sources properly.

But my main point is what are you looking for here -- to add to wiki or to get some answers?

SoftballCatch23. I am sorry about that. I wont do it again. I know that the Marines go through a lot in the thirteen weeks of boot camp. I saw some on tv about Marine Boot Camp and things online about that. thewookie. I am not trying to add to wiki or anything. I did copy and paste some parts from online. The reason why I posted it like that is to ask those questions about those parts to make sure I am understanding it right. I plan on going into the Marines about a year so I want to know things about different Marine's MOS. I also searched and found information from older posts on this site too. I know some of you dont like it when people do stuff like this before you are even in boot camp and then a Marine. So, I am physically just working on fitness for boot camp, but getting information on things I may get a chance to do or hope to do.

It's tough to get through your original post due to lack of paragraphing, but here goes:

Force Recon is a Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) asset. Hence the name. Their taskings come through their MEF, although their product may be used at the division or air wing level (or lower).

Green ops are sneaky-peeky, small unit recons. Getting into a firefight is usually not a good thing for only 5-10 guys stuck miles from help.

Direct action ops are intentional surprise attacks, by relatively small units, against a specific target (such as a radar station, power distribution station, etc). Generally targets not heavily guarded and help is on standby. They are not so much "looking for trouble" as intentionally causing trouble in a localized area.

You have to be in the Navy to go through BUD/S, although Force Recon does train with SEAL Teams. Recon trains with all branches to learn what the other has to teach as they all have a specialty to bring to the table.

S-sections (S-1, etc) are staff offices under the company commanding officer (the XO generally supervises them). They take care of those matters assigned to them, admin, intel, etc. They do not command platoons. Normally a Marine infantry company does not have S-sections, only battalion level and higher do. However, Force Recon has to deal with much higher level headquarters than the average company commander does, so they need the staff support.

Platoons work for the company commanding officer and under his supervision.
