    Essential Subjects Book???

When I was in boot camp in the 80's we had a smallish-sized book issued to us that was referred to, at the time, as the Marine Corps Bible, for all of the essential information it contained. I spoke with my son's recruiter, and he tells me there is no such thing anymore, and that he will be issued something different at boot camp. Can anyone tell me what this new book is called, and is there anywhere I can get my hands on it?

And if it is the same book my son had when he graduated, it was more like a 3- ring binder, where you can add things to it, had a place for notes on the back of some pages. That's what I sometimes go my letters on...

Thanks Marinemom32...that helps narrow down the search a little. I have been finding a variety of books claiming to be the book I am looking for. My son went to MEPS today, and I sat and visited with a new Marine for a while at the recruiter's office, but forgot to ask him about it...my bad!

No problem...when I get home tonight will look thru his stuff and see if it is still at home not sure if he took with with him or not, but i am pretty sure that is the book you are talking about. Had all the history, anything a recruit would want to know about the Marines. they will also get another book for the rifle range to keep track of all their shooting..I like looking thru it and seeing all the notes that he tool of how he did, but they probably always had that too...

And I am sure you had plenty of other things on your mind to talk about other than the book

Bingo! It even looks like the ones we got back in '83. Thanks again RI, and thanks to you too Marinemom32! By the way, he got back from MEPS today and is sworn in! He is oficially in the DEP. I'll have to get him to sign up here for the Poolee forum now.

In addition to the Green Monster (3 ring binder) recruits also recieve a paper back book that was updated in the early 2000's title Guidebook For Marines. Its pretty much the same information.
