Intro of high gloss Corfam shoes for optional daily wear, but not inspections.

Intro of black leather police gear for MPs.

    Intro of Harrier jets.

Intro of ALICE-Medium packs to replace the old M-1941 pack system.

Phasing out of M-14 rifle Marine Corps-wide (base units still used it, but it was being phased out there). M-16A1 became standard in boot camp.

I think there were a few other changes in there, but can't remember them all.

I saw the same except we never got to wear the corfram shoes or the clip-on tie, also went from green fatigues to cammies. they also did away with liberty passes for men ,went from squad bay to rooms for enlisted..

    Rufus1,
You be right. Fired Expert in Boot at Camp Matthews, and Expert 3 years later at Montford Point, with my beloved M-14. Gave me a AR-15 to qualify with, returning from my first holiday in SE Asia, and fired Marksman. So, that is stuck on my DD214. Sucks.
Change I remember, was not liking when they phased out the "Battle (Eisenhower) Jacket". Made for one good looking uniform, in its day.

Had a real MC Service number, and got paid in brand new $2 bills.

The biggest change that I remember is that we shifted from fighting the vc, who would attempt to slip away after contact was made, to fighting NVA Regulars who would stand and duke it out with us.

Since then I've always wondered why our country aligns itself with the wimps of a country while the other side always seems to have the hard core troops.
