re 4 with mbk1 narrative reason

Hello fellas im not saying im the best Marine and things like that but I want to get my reenlistment code changed for peace of mind. I got njped one time and that was it. I was just in tijuana and got in trouble and lost my rank for it. I'm doing well im a 100 percent service connected vet and Im not looking to get back in I want to have something removed I feel that shouldn't be there. I'm an honorable discharge and I feel that its no longer a part of me to have a re4. I want to do the things necessary to change it.

Re enlistment Codes and how to Change them

I suggest that you try to seek help with this offline. Here's some additional info. that I hope helps you:

How to Request a Change in Separation Code or Characterization:

1.) GET HELP! Go to your county Veterans Affairs service officer. If your county does not have one, your state will likely have a department that can assist you.

2.) As an alternative, you can also try the American Legion or VFW. Call your state's AL or VFW Department office for assistance.

    a. AL Dept. Service Officer Finder: http://www.legion.org/departmentofficers
    b. VFW Dept. Service Officers List: http://www.vfw.org/Assistance/National- … s-Service/

3.) Get your supporting documentation together, if applicable.

    4.) File DD-293 (or DD-149 if it has been more than 15 years). See: http://www.dtic.mil/whs/directives/info … dd0293.pdf

It sounds very unusual, if not impossible to get a RE-4 and an honorable discharge at the same time.

Possible. However, the ONLY way that RE-4 gets changed is if it was issued 'IN ERROR'.

If you got an NJP, and busted, then the RE-4 will likely remain as it is. Sorry but that's just the simple, hard facts.

Of course you don't feel you deserve a RE-4 reenlistment code. Does anybody who has one think they deserve it?

Good luck convincing the powers that be they should change it.

Hope your visit to Tijuana was worth it and please let us know how this works out for you.

It's entirely possible to get an RE-4 and an Honorable discharge. I've seen a couple. The Marines fell into two categories: Either they got into trouble but really were loved by their command (hence the Honorable) or they got away with tons of stuff and the command hated them, but couldn't prove anything on an Admin Sep Board (hence the RE-4).

Still, reenlistment codes are not that important unless you want to come back in. The SPD Code (MBK1 in your case), that's the important one. That tells people that you did 4 years of honorable service and just got out. There's literally hundreds of SPD codes for anything and everything you can think of (even using the VEERP to get out early has it's own code).

If it REALLY bothers you, I'd try the Naval Board of Corrections.

Through research I have learned that if you are HIV positive you can get out with an honorable dischage and be assigned an RE-4.

RE-4 basciclly means we don't want you back. Count youself lucky you weren't drummed out,
