January 20, 1944...Guadalcanal after Bougainville
We set up a new camp and then we rested. My tent is about fifty yards from the ocean. I feel fine and healthy, as far as I know.
My feet are better now. I hope I'm in this good of condition when I get back. Some times I just stand on the beach and gaze toward the east.
Robert Lindsay and I tried to get transferred to anything to get off the front lines, but no luck. We did get into the heavy weapons company. Being on a 37MM tank gun was a little better risk.
January 23rd I received two letters from Helen. The letters were written December 29th and the 31st.
.......from my diary
